  • Journalist and self-described “ufologist” Jaime Maussan has brought what he claims are two alien bodies in front of government officials, claiming that the figures are “not part of our evolutionary history on Earth.”

  • Forensic expert and military doctor José de Jesús Zalce Benítez presented scans of the figures, claiming that they would have had big eyes, big brains, and no teeth.

  • Maussan and Benítez were both involved in a debunked “alien reveal” in 2015, and have been involved with a project produced by known promoter of pseudoscience and conspiracy theories, Gaia.com.

Someone is once again putting out the call that there is evidence of aliens among us. This time, it’s journalist and self-described “ufologist” Jaime Maussan, who has brought what he claims are two mummified bodies of aliens in front of Mexico’s Congress in Mexico City.

In an event headed by Maussan, government officials from both Mexico and the U.S. were reportedly told that these figures were found in the city of Cusco, Peru in 2017 and are estimated to be approximately 1,000 years old. According to Sky News, Maussan said—under oath—that the bodies weren’t human.

“These specimens are not part of our evolutionary history on Earth,” Maussan claimed during his presentation, as reported by Sky News. “They are not beings recovered from a UFO crash. Instead, they were found in diatom (algae) mines and subsequently became fossilized.”

Maussan also reportedly claimed that the figures were examined by researchers at the Autonomous National University of Mexico. He said that the scientists used radiocarbon dating methods and X-ray photography to analyze the figures, and Maussan stated that the research found “eggs” inside one.

José de Jesús Zalce Benítez, a forensic expert and military doctor, presented scans of the figures, claiming—according to NPRthat they had big eyes, big brains, and no teeth. The meeting also featured statements from Ryan Graves, one of the U.S. veterans who testified about UFOs in front of U.S. Congress earlier this year.

Here, however, it is important to note that this story is full of “alleges,” “claims,” and “reports.” This article is based largely on the claims of individuals. And if past record is to be believed, the word of some of these individuals may not be the most trustworthy.

According to a 2017 Snopes article, in 2015, both Maussan and Benítez were part of an event called Be Witness, during which the supposed mummified body of an alien was unveiled. Maussan led the event, and Benítez was one of the lead researchers investigating the mummy. The “discovery” was later debunked, and the mummy was revealed to be the remains of a human child.

Both Maussan and Benítez also participated in a video project by Gaia.com, which focused on mummified remains discovered outside of Nazca, Peru and posits that they may be evidence of aliens. Gaia.com has a significant history of promoting pseudo-scientific and conspiracy theories.

Though these figures presented today definitely warrant further investigation, it’s probably not worth practicing how you’ll respond to a “take me to your leader” request just yet.
