What was inside a chocolate cake sold only at IKEA wasn’t edible. It caused a recall

The latest not-food-in-your-food recall has a Swedish accent and a flavor swirl of chocolate, caramel and almonds — Almondy Chocolate Cake with Daim, sold only at IKEA stores.

According to the Almondy-written, FDA-posted recall notice, a cake contained a metal object. All the cakes in batch No. L2140 with best by date of NOV.18.2023 were recalled.

“We have done a root cause analysis and identified that the metal object is from the equipment in our bakery, and it came into the cake during the production process,” Almondy Quality Director Margareta Johannesson said in an email to the Miami Herald. “We have identified what measures to take to prevent this from happening again.”

Meanwhile, anyone with the recalled cakes can return them to IKEA for a full refund or contact Almondy online via the company website.
