Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant parting ways with agent Jim Tanner | Report

Ja Morant is parting ways with his agent, Jim Tanner of Tandem Sports + Entertainment, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Tanner has represented Morant since he left Murray State and became the No. 2 overall pick for the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Morant developed into one of the NBA's biggest stars over the past five seasons and did several community events assisted by his agency. In the summer of 2022, Morant helped refurbish 13 courts at Memphis parks.

Later that summer, Morant signed a five-year contract extension with the Grizzlies worth $197 million. Morant's max contract could have bumped up to $39 million more after the 2023 season, but he did not make an All-NBA team.

Last summer, Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane matched Morant's status as the highest-paid Grizzlies player in franchise history. Bane has also been represented by Tandem Sports since being drafted in 2020.

Morant didn't make an All-NBA team in part because of a nine-game suspension after he brandished a gun in an Instagram Live video while at a Denver area nightclub. Morant had another similar video surface two months later in May 2023 while he was in a car. That led to a 25-game suspension at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Morant is currently out for the season after suffering a labral tear in his left shoulder.
