Memphis Grizzlies Reportedly Trading Grayson Allen

The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly trading fourth-year shooting guard Grayson Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for second-year guard Sam Merrill and two future second-round picks, per ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Allen averaged a career-high 10.6 points per game with the Grizzlies in 2020-21.

After an outstanding career with the Duke Blue Devils, Allen was selected by the Utah Jazz with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Following his rookie season in Salt Lake City, the first-round pick was traded to Memphis as part of the Jazz’ deal to acquire All-Star guard Mike Conley.

Through his two years with the Grizzlies, Allen proved himself as an effective backup with solid three-point shooting abilities — knocking down 39.5% from behind the arc. His shooting prowess should help space the floor for drive-first superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo when they’re on the floor together.

Grayson Allen will now join a veteran reserve backcourt unit of George Hill, Jeff Teague and Pat Connaughton behind Jrue Holiday and Donte DiVincenzo.

The Bucks are coming off of their first NBA Title in 50 years. They bring back most of their core from that team, and add a quality bench piece in Allen.

Merrill, the other player included in the trade, is entering his second NBA season after averaging 3.0 points through 7.8 minutes per game with the Bucks in 2020-21.
