Memphis Grizzlies guard Derrick Rose expected to miss multiple games with knee injury

Another rotation player — and a big name — for the Memphis Grizzlies is dealing with an injury.

Derrick Rose, who is out for Wednesday's game against the Jazz in Utah due to left knee soreness, is expected to miss more time because of the injury. Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters at Vivint Arena that Rose is expected to be reevaluated in a week.

With that timeline, Rose will miss the entirety of the three-game road trip. The Grizzlies' next game at home is Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

Rose has served as the backup point guard through the first four games. He is averaging eight points in 17.8 minutes per game on 32.4% shooting.

Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane likely will assume point guard duties. Because both players start, the Grizzlies could opt to stagger them throughout the game, akin to how frontcourt starters Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman Sr. have played this season.

Jacob Gilyard, who is currently on a two-way contract, is another option. He made one appearance with the Grizzlies in each of the past two seasons, but he has spent time as the starting point guard for the Memphis Hustle in the G League.
