Memphis Grizzlies' Derrick Rose out for remainder of game vs. Rockets due to injury

The Memphis Grizzlies will be shorthanded at the point guard position in the second half against the Houston Rockets.

Starting point guard Derrick Rose left the game due to left hamstring soreness and he will not return, the team announced. Rose played nine minutes and scored three points before leaving the game in the second quarter.

Rose entered Friday's game averaging 9.5 points and shooting 44.1% from the field. He has started seven games and brought stability to the point guard position.

With Rose out, the Grizzlies will play Desmond Bane on the ball more and give Jacob Gilyard more opportunities. Gilyard has started seven games and is shooting 41.5% on 3-pointers.

Help is on the way for the Grizzlies at point guard. Ja Morant will miss one more game — Monday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder — before he's able to return from his 25-game suspension. He is expected to debut Tuesday in New Orleans against the Pelicans.

Marcus Smart is also getting close to a return, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins revealed before the game. Smart should participate in five-on-five workouts during tomorrow's practice, which will help him test out his left foot and ramp up for a return.
