Memorials honour lives lost and saved in the pandemic
New memorials have been unveiled at the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal hospitals, to remember the lives lost and saved during the coronavirus pandemic.
Funded by the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, the memorials feature butterflies with the inscription, “Leaves may fall from the tree, but from the branches, butterflies soar to a higher yet more beautiful place."
They were placed in the Rivercourt Restaurant courtyard at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, and outside the front door at the Alexandra and Kidderminster Hospitals.
"These beautiful memorials will provide a place for patients, staff, and visitors to reflect, remember, and celebrate those we tragically lost during the Covid pandemic," said Stephen Collman, managing director at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dedication ceremonies were held at each site to unveil the memorials.
Hospital chaplains led a moment of reflection to remember the lives lost, and celebrate those that were saved by staff at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
"As many people will see and reflect on this beautiful memorial, it is here to evoke in us many thoughts and emotions, including remembrance, thanksgiving, unity, and hope." said David Ryan, chaplain at the Trust.
