Memorial Day is a national holiday to honor those who have given their lives in service to their country.

In Dutchess County, municipalities are gathering residents, veterans and their families at ceremonies and parades in May in remembrance of the courageous men and women who died serving in the United States military.

Memorial Day community observations in Dutchess County

Hopewell Junction: Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 a.m.

Village of Rhinebeck: Sunday, May 26 at 11 a.m.

Rhinebeck Reformed Church is hosting a ceremony at 6368 Mill St. For more information, contact the church at 845-876-3727.

Town of Milan: Sunday, May 26 at 12 p.m.

City of Poughkeepsie: Sunday, May 26 at 3 p.m.

There will be a ceremony at the Solider and Sailor Foundation on South Avenue, hosted by the City of Poughkeepsie and American Legion Lafayette Post #37. For more information, contact Nate Grant at 845-249-9599.

Staatsburg: Monday, May 27 at 8 a.m.

Union Vale: Monday, May 27 at 9:30 a.m.
