Memorial Day events planned in Corning, Painted Post, Bath. How to pay tribute

Corning's annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor servicemen and women will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Park, off Park Avenue.

Brian Francis, commander of the Corning American Legion, said the event allows people to honor veterans this day and every day.

“It will be a great event to honor those who supported our nation,” Francis said.

Memorial Day honors all military members who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. The holiday always falls on the last Monday of May.

The National Weather Service's early forecast for the holiday in the Corning area calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The Weather Service estimates a 70% chance of rain in the early forecast. Temperatures will be pleasant, though, with a high near 78 degrees.
