Megyn Kelly is reportedly plotting her return to TV ahead of the 2020 election

Megyn Kelly is reportedly considering a return to TV that would coincide with the 2020 presidential race this fall, sources tell the New York Post‘s Page Six. Her talk show, Megyn Kelly Today, was canceled last fall following uproar over insensitive remarks she made on-air about blackface.

Though the disgraced daytime host is allegedly “emotionally scarred” from the controversy that led to her firing, “she needs something good emotionally, intellectually — something that’s good for the whole family,” a source told Page Six.

In October, Kelly defended blackface during a segment on her show involving a panel of white hosts, including Melissa Rivers and Jenna Bush Hager. The women were discussing offensive Halloween costumes when Kelly said, “What is racist? You get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Like — when I was a kid that was OK as long as you were a character.”

Despite her co-hosts trying to defuse Kelly’s controversial remarks, the host doubled down, seemingly oblivious to their offense. “I don’t know,” she said. “I can’t keep up with the number of people we’re offending just by being normal people.”

The comments sparked a Twitter firestorm and public shaming of Kelly, which ultimately led to her departure from NBC. Kelly issued an apology in the aftermath of the blackface controversy, then largely dropped off the radar. During her time out of the spotlight, Kelly is said to have focused on fitness, learning to cook and spending time with her three children. She was said to have been writing a tell-all book, but a source shot that rumor down.

“There’s no book. Megyn’s already written a book [her 2016 autobiography Settle for More],” the source told Page Six. “And why would she want to go back and revisit that NBC nonsense? If there was to be a book, it would be based around policy issues, which isn’t likely right now.”

The source would not get specific about Kelly’s plans to return to TV, saying that she doesn’t want to rush into anything just for the sake of it. “Megyn’s trying not to make any decisions right now,” the source said. “She needs a break after decades of hard work.”

In the meantime, Kelly is enjoying a $30 million payout, which she received in January.

Kelly is no stranger to covering presidential races, having famously moderated the Republican presidential debate in 2015.

Yahoo Lifestyle has reached out to Kelly’s representatives to confirm the news, which is still technically speculation.
