Meghan McCain Slams Seth Meyers After Awkward 2019 Interview: 'Horrific Experience'

Meghan McCain shared her honest thoughts on Seth Meyers and a past interview she had on his late-night talk show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, back in 2019.

In the second episode of her podcast, Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat, called, "Senators, Activists, and Real Housewives!", McCain had a conversation with Senator Ted Cruz about late-night shows, with the former The View host saying, "Speaking of late-night stuff, I went on Seth Meyers and it was one of the worst experiences of my life, truly."

McCain further commented, “My husband [Ben Domenech] tweeted that the only reason he had a show was that he gargled [Late Night executive producer] Lorne Michaels‘ balls. It was a horrific experience, and he can go to hell forever.”

During the interview, Meyers brought up Congresswoman Ilhan Omar‘s 2019 comments regarding Israel, for which she later apologized. Following her apology, McCain publicly criticized Omar for her statements, which Meyers referenced. He then suggested that people should maybe be “more careful” with their comments about Omar.

"I stand by every single thing I’ve said, and if that makes me unpopular in this room or in front of you, so be it," the 38-year-old said in response. Meyers pressed her further, explaining that he was trying to find "common ground."

After some seemingly polite back and forth, Meyers once again highlighted McCain's criticism for the specific comments that Omar apologized for, and she questioned, "What would make you happy coming out of my mouth right now? I’m genuinely curious.”

The rest of the conversation appeared to play out respectfully, with Meyers noting, "I think it's good that you are on mainstream news. You do have a platform...I think there's this idea that maybe you're saying unpopular things, but certainly ABC thinks it's worth hearing."

Many in the comments felt the same way, with one person calling the conversation, "Polite yet confrontational, funny yet stern," but apparently, McCain doesn't remember the interview that way.

In 2021, McCain also left The View, although she still occasionally makes appearances on various television programs. Now, she's starting a new project with her podcast, which premiered its first episode on Oct. 17.
