Meghan McCain mocked on anniversary of her father’s death

Thursday marked the fourth anniversary of Sen. John McCain’s death — and the Libertarian Party in New Hampshire used that opportunity to mock his mourning daughter, Meghan McCain.

“Happy Holidays,” the party tweeted alongside a photo of McCain crying over her father’s coffin.

The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire is critical of politicians like the late senator and Navy veteran, who they view as having a hawkish approach to military intervention. His 37-year-old daughter, who frequently found herself being ridiculed while co-hosting ABC’s “The View” for four years, said mockery from organizations like New Hampshire’s Libertarians is all too familiar.

“I’m actually sadly used to this type of thing — my public grief and pain have become something comedians make YouTube videos about as ‘comedy,’” she wrote on Twitter. “The worst part is what this does for other people in severe pain and grief — god forbid anyone displays it publicly and its documented.”

John McCain served the state of Arizona as a senator and representative from 1983 until 2018, when he died from brain cancer. In 2008, he was the Republican candidate for president. The conservative heavyweight, who was born on a Naval air station, also served in the Navy during the war in Vietnam, where he was prisoner of war for more than five years.

His daughter’s Twitter battle with Libertarians wasn’t limited to New Hampshire. The Libertarian Party of Kentucky weighed in Wednesday admitting their ally’s tweet may not have been productive, but defending the thinking behind it.

“While some might think this is in bad taste, there are hundreds of thousands of Muslim children who are alive today because her father is not alive to promote relentless bombing campaigns/wars,” that party tweeted.

Late Wednesday night, McCain fired a parting shot at her antagonists.

“Also, it’s truly a mystery why no one ever takes Libertarians and their failure of a pseudo political party seriously,” she tweeted along with a mocking emoticon.

Tennessee’s Libertarian Party fired back saying it didn’t take anyone who was on “The View” seriously.

The Libertarian Party describes itself as “the only political party that respects you as a unique and responsible individual.”
