As anyone who's ever seen my closet can attest, I'm not exactly a minimalist. Though I aspire to the pared-back, capsule wardrobe, Marie Kondo-esque lifestyle, my eternal quest for the perfect pair of trousers or the ideal everyday sneakers (don't even get me started on my white button down collection) inevitably leads to my collection getting packed with various forays into achieving style Nirvana. Case in point: the bin full of sunglasses hidden in a cabinet beside my front door. In it, I have dozens of styles—mod or classic, oversized or teeny, neutral or scene-stealing—which have all garnered my affection over the years, but never earned a permanent spot in my purse.

So, as winter began its all too slow transition into spring this year and my inevitable annual search for The Perfect Sunglasses once more commenced, I decided to take a cue from a noted master of timeless style, Meghan Markle. Suffice to say, the Duchess did not disappoint. After perusing her favorite sunnies over the years, I decided to opt for the Le Specs Air Hearts, a style Meghan made uber-popular when she wore them in NYC shortly before giving birth to her and Prince Harry's first child, Prince Archie.

As soon as I put them on, it was immediately obvious why the style has been such a hit. The look amps up everything you love about a classic pair of cat eye sunglasses, with an elegant silhouette that flatters every face shape. However, this pair takes it up a notch by giving the sturdy, slightly chunky frames extra volume, kissing the line between old school and modern in a way that makes them seem both of-the-moment and timeless—think: if Jackie Kennedy was doing 2024 model-off-duty style.

The extra size gives them a dose of "who is she" glamour... that also does double-duty if you, for example, wear them to run a quick sans-makeup errand and happen to bump into that one friend who's always impeccably put together/your ex/literally anyone you've ever wanted to make a good impression on (it's a law of the universe that you will meet these people with unbrushed hair and in sweatpants.)

I also love that the tint on this pair is truly brightness-blocking, unlike some fashionable sunnies that only give you a hint of tint. You could easily wear these on the beach or on a sun-drenched vacation without ever having to worry about squinting. And while I opted for the tortoise shell shade (Meghan's versions are classic black) they also come in a selection of neutrals and eclectic tones so you can choose the option that suits your individual style.

While I'll admit that I may not quite be ready to toss out my whole bin of older sunglasses, I do know exactly which shades will be making a home in my bag this season, and for many more to come.
