Meghan Markle could run for president in 2024, or not

Actress and British Royal Meghan Markle is interested in politics, but is she interested in throwing her crown in the ring in the 2024 election? Vanity Fair magazine says that’s a definite maybe.

“I think if Meghan and Harry ever gave up their titles she would seriously consider running for president,” a friend of hers reportedly said, claiming the 39-year-old California native maintained her U.S. citizenship after marrying Prince Harry in 2018 because she wanted to keep her options open.

Markle has hinted that she would like to see the current president leave the White House, but a second Vanity Fair insider doubts the duchess wants the job.

“While there’s no denying she is interested and engaged in politics as a topic, she harbors no ambition to enter a career in politics herself,” that person said.

The former “Suits” star said in a 2017 interview that she found Trump “misogynistic” and “so vocal about it.”

She toned down her rhetoric after becoming a member of Great Britain’s Royal Family, which strives to be apolitical. Though she has no political experience, neither did President Trump, who was a reality TV star on NBC’s “The Apprentice” for 14 seasons.

President Trump is likewise no admirer of Markle, who along with Prince Harry, lives in Los Angeles and has been publicly encouraging Americans to vote. When asked about that, the president, who welcomed the couple to the country in March by unsolicitedly stating American taxpayers wouldn’t finance their security costs, expressed sympathy for the Northwestern University grad’s husband.

“I’m not a fan of hers, and I would say this — and she probably has heard that — but, I wish a lot of luck to Harry," Trump said."Because he’s going to need it.”

Markle has not endorsed a 2020 candidate. Her London-based biographer Omid Skobie reportedly believes the Duchess of Sussex has the White House on her mind and someday, she’ll be president.

“Meghan is the embodiment of the American dream,” he said.

While the constitution forbids Trump from running in 2024 if he wins this year, the president has raised concerns that he might not leave office. Throughout the week, the 74-year-old politician refused to commit to accepting the results of the November election. Trump also hinted as recently as last week that he might be “entitled” to a third term, because he doesn’t like “the way we were treated.”
