Hurry up and get your tickets: Mega Millions jackpot hits $830 million, third-highest ever

It’s living up to the name.

The Tuesday night Mega Millions grand prize has reached an estimated $830 million.

The drawing will be held at 11 p.m. in Atlanta, and if someone wins, they will collect the third-largest prize in Mega Millions history. A Mega Millions ticket costs just $2.

The nationwide lottery is played in 45 states, including New York, along with Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The cash payout will be $487.9 million, Mega Millions said in a press release.

The massive jackpot has piled up across 28 drawings without anyone winning the grand prize. The losing streak has been going for so long that during a May drawing, the host called the wrong Mega Ball number — only the most important one of the six.

Another non-winning draw on Friday led to massive interest. The jackpot spiked $20 million between Monday and Tuesday alone.

The biggest jackpot in Mega Millions history was $1.54 billion in late 2018. The winning ticket was sold in South Carolina. The second-biggest jackpot win, $1.05 billion, came in January 2021 on a ticket sold in Michigan.
