Mega Millions host calls wrong number, payouts suspended

He had one job.

The Mega Millions host called the wrong Mega Ball number during Tuesday’s drawing, forcing the multistate lottery to suspend payouts.

Host John Crow incorrectly read the Mega Ball as a 6 when it was actually a 9. He called the first five numbers correctly.

“On May 10, 2022, the host of the Mega Millions drawing incorrectly called the Mega Ball as a 6 instead of a 9,” read a caption at the bottom of the official YouTube video. “The 9 ball was drawn into the chamber and is the official result. The results of the drawing were audited by Preston CPA.”

The jackpot was $86 million. According to the Mega Millions website, no one won the grand prize, so the jackpot is expected to roll over. Friday’s grand prize has been estimated at $99 million.

However, several people won smaller prizes and will presumably experience slower than usual payouts. Everyone who played was advised to hold on to their tickets.
