Meet the T&G Hometeam high school girls' basketball Super Team for winter 2023-24
The Central Mass High School Sports Awards is proud to announce the player of the year nominees for girls' basketball. The winners will be announced during the live show on Wednesday, June 26, at the Hanover Theatre. Doors open at 6 and the show begins promptly at 7.
This award is sponsored by New England Sports Center.
During the live show, athletes of the year in 31 sports will be honored. In addition, top teams, coaches and overall athletes will be honored as will a Courage Award winner. Nominated athletes who RSVP will receive a complimentary ticket to the event thanks to sponsors.

Naima Bleou
South High, Senior, Guard
Bleou, a two-year captain, helped lead the Colonels to a historic season. South was the first Worcester Public Schools girls’ basketball team to reach a state final. The Colonels won 19 straight games before falling to Medfield in the Division 2 championship game. Bleou averaged a team-high 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists and South finished 23-2. Bleou’s most memorable moment of the season was her team’s 71-46 win over Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) in the quarterfinals. Bleou was a four-year honor roll student. In the fall, she will attend Rhode Island College, where she will study computer science and play basketball. She is the daughter of Henriette Nda of Worcester.
Elizabeth Cain
Wachusett Regional, Senior, Forward
Cain earned her second straight T&G Super Team honor after helping the Mountaineers reach the state final for the first time in program history. The team’s accomplishment was her most memorable moment of the season. Cain, a team captain, averaged 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and was a Mid-Wach A all-star. The Mountaineers won 24 straight games before falling to Bishop Feehan in the Division 1 championship game. In the fall, Cain will attend Amherst College, where she will study neuroscience or biochemistry and play basketball. She is the daughter of Stuart and Kristine Cain of Jefferson.
Ava Carroll
Sutton High, Freshman, Forward/Center
Carroll averaged 17.5 points to lead the Dual Valley Conference. She scored in double figures in all but three games, and she was a force around the basket, averaging 11.6 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots. She scored a season-high 24 points, to go along with 19 rebounds and 6 blocks, in the Suzies’ victory over Doherty to cap an 18-0 regular season, which was her most memorable moment of the year. Carroll was the DVC Player of the Year. She helped Sutton to an appearance in the Division 4 state tournament. She is the daughter of Katie Carroll and Adam Leverone of Sutton.
Molly Gahan
Northbridge High, Junior, Forward
Gahan averaged a SWCL-best 18.7 points per game and led the Rams to the second round of the Division 4 state tournament. Gahan added 11 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 2.6 steals per game and earned SWCL all-star honors for the second straight season. Gahan scored in double figures in all but one game, and she poured in a season-high 28 points in a mid-year victory over Auburn. Advancing to the Clark Tournament Large Schools final for the second straight year was her most memorable moment of the season. She scored a game-high 19 points in Northbridge’s semifinal win over Hudson. She is the daughter of James and Molly Gahan of Whitinsville.
Mary Gibbons
Wachusett Regional, Senior, Guard
Gibbons capped her outstanding career with her fourth straight T&G Super Team selection and led the Mountaineers to their first state final appearance. Gibbons averaged 19.4 points to rank first in Mid-Wach A, and she was tops in Central Mass. with 71 made 3-pointers. She reached the 1,000-point milestone in the second game of the season and finished with 1,456 points. Advancing to the state championship game was her most memorable moment of the season. Wachusett won 24 straight games before falling to Bishop Feehan in the Division 1 final. A captain, Gibbons was the Mid-Wach A Player of the Year and the 2023-24 Massachusetts Max Preps Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year. Gibbons, a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, will attend the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall. She will play basketball for the Mids. She is the daughter of Tom and Amanda Gibbons of Holden.
Ashleigh Lagor
Millbury High, Senior, Guard
Lagor averaged a team-best 18.3 points per game and led the Woolies to the quarterfinals of the Division 4 state tournament. Lagor added 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Scoring her 1,000th career point in a victory over Northbridge was her most memorable moment of the season. Lagor, a team captan, had two 30-point performances in 2023-24 and scored 20 or more points in 15 games. She earned SWCL all-star honors. In the fall, she will attend UMass Boston, where she will study sports administration. She is the daughter of Nicole and Joseph Lagor of Millbury.
Bella Miele
Marlborough High, Sophomore, Point guard
Miele earned her second straight T&G Super Team honor after leading Mid-Wach B in scoring for the second year in a row. Miele averaged 21.5 points to rank among the leading scorers in Central Mass., and added 4.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game. She scored a career-high 35 points in a late-season win over Shepherd Hill Regional. Miele is a two-time Mid-Wach B MVP. Finishing with a 15-4 record and making it to the Division 2 state tournament under new coach Frank Greene were Miele’s most memorable moments of the season. She is the daughter of Mike and Jackie Miele of Marlborough.
Madison Pitro
West Boylston High, Senior, Guard
Pitro earned her second straight T&G Super Team honor for girls’ basketball after leading the Lions to their first state championship appearance. She averaged 16.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 4.1 steals during the Lions’ great run, which ended with a loss to Hoosac Valley in the Division 5 state final. West Boylston finished 22-4. Making the state final and scoring her 1,000th career point were Pitro’s most memorable moments of the season. She was a two-year captain and three-time Mid-Wach D MVP. Last fall, Pitro earned T&G Super Team accolades for soccer. In the fall, she will attend the University of Rhode Island, where she will study business management. She is the daughter of Danielle and John Pitro of West Boylston.
Addison Pong
Notre Dame Academy, Junior, Guard/Forward
Pong, a captain, averaged 22.3 points to lead the Central Mass. Conference and rank second in Central Mass. She sank 40 3-pointers and had three 30-point performances, including a season-high 35-point output against Algonquin Regional. Pong scored in double figures in all but one game. Leading NDA’s young team, which lost five players from last year’s team to graduation, was her most memorable moment of the season. The Rebels won eight games and qualified for the Division 3 state tournament. Pong is involved in many extracurricular activities at NDA, including the Science, Diversity, Sports Management, Unified and Community Service Clubs. She is the daughter of Kevin and Janice Pong of Bolton.
Anitsy Robles
South High, Senior, Guard
Robles helped lead South to a historic season as the Colonels were the first Worcester Public Schools girls’ basketball team to reach a state final. South won 19 straight games before falling to Medfield in the Division 2 championship. Making it to the title game was Robles’ most memorable moment of the season. Robles averaged 9.4 points per game and helped key South’s outstanding defense. Robles scored a season-high 20 points in a win over Inter-High rival Doherty. In the Colonels’ five postseason games, she averaged 12.2 points per game. Robles hopes to play basketball in college. She is the daughter of Christina Gonzalez of Worcester.
Gabby Scanlon
Tantasqua Regional, Senior, Point guard
Scanlon averaged 14.2 points, 2.1 assists and 3.6 steals and led the Warriors to the Division 3 state tournament round of 16. Scanlon scored a season-high 23 points in wins over Holyoke and Northbridge. Tantasqua finished 18-5. Capturing the Clark Tournament Large Schools championship was Scanlon’s most memorable moment of the season. She was a team captain and earned SWCL all-star honors for the third straight year. In the fall, Scanlon will attend Quinsigamond Community College while obtaining her professional pilot’s license. She is the daughter of Michelle and Greg Scanlon of Sturbridge.
Jaelynn Scott
Wachusett Regional, Sophomore, Guard/Forward
Scott continued her emergence as a force at both ends while helping the Mountaineers reach the state final for the first time in program history. Scott averaged 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 2.4 assists as Wachusett finished the regular season undefeated (20-0) for the fourth time in five years. Scott scored in double figures in three straight postseason games, including a 17-point performance against Springfield Central in the semifinals. Winning that game to advance to the final was Scott’s most memorable moment of the season. She was a Mid-Wach A all-star. She is the daughter of Jesse Scott and Stace Garrick of Holden.
