Meet The Oklahoman's 2024 Super 5 high school boys basketball first team

Here are The Oklahoman's Super 5 boys basketball first-team selections for the 2023-24 season:

More: 2023-24 All-State and All-City teams in basketball, swimming & wrestling

Super 5 Player of the Year: Dayton Forsythe, Dale

6-foot-2 | Guard | Senior

The story: Forsythe was Dale's heartbeat. The OU signee averaged 20 points and six rebounds to lead the Pirates to their third consecutive Class 2A state championship. Forsythe could have posted even higher averages, but his dominance early in games led him to rarely play fourth quarters during the regular season. He erupted for 36 points in his final high school game against Pocola to claim the state title. He helped the Pirates end on a 16-game win streak, during which they outscored opponents by an average of 33 points.

Luke Gray, Oklahoma Christian School

6-foot-8 | Forward | Senior

The story: Gray, an Oral Roberts commit, finished his career at OCS as the program's all-time leading scorer. His presence in the paint helped the Saints capture their first Class 3A state championship in 17 years. The big man averaged 21.8 points and 11.4 rebounds, while shooting 61% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. Gray rounded off his strong postseason run with a game-high 22 points and 16 rebounds in the state championship, just one game after going for 26 and 26 in the state semifinals.

Jalen Montonati, Owasso

6-foot-7 | Forward | Sophomore

The story: Montonati is just a sophomore and has already become Oklahoma's only five-star prospect. Montonati showcased his elite skill set in the Class 6A state championship game, where he scored 34 points to stun defending two-time state champion Edmond North and lead Owasso to its first state championship. Montonati had one of the most productive sophomore seasons in the country, averaging 23.6 points, five rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 54% from the field and 44% from beyond the 3-point line.

Dylan Warlick, Edmond North

6-foot-5 | Forward | Senior

The story: The Wyoming signee anchored the Huskies' defense while leading the club in scoring for the third straight year. His relentless drive kept Edmond North competitive in close contests throughout the season. The two-time state champion averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while guiding the Huskies to their third straight state championship game.

Carlsheon Young, Midwest City

6-foot-5 | Guard | Junior

The story: After the Oklahoma State commit arrived from Newcastle, the Bombers completed a remarkable one-year turnaround, going from a six-win season to the Class 5A state championship. Young scored 22 points in the state championship game, helping the Bombers attain their first gold ball since 2007. He averaged 18.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and three assists on the season. Young demonstrated his versatile skillset on both ends of the floor by defending all five positions throughout the season.

Coach of the Year: Brian Montonati, Owasso

The story: Montonati served as a pillar of faith and the principal voice of reason for Owasso during its historic campaign. The former Oklahoma State standout led the Rams to a 26-4 record in his seventh season under the helm, largely thanks to his son, Jalen. Brian Montonati's leadership on the sidelines was crucial throughout a tough state tournament run culminating in a state title game victory over two-time defending Class 6A champion Edmond North. Owasso outscored opponents by an average of 26 points, ranking third in the state's largest classification.
