If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home please send a photo, description, and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.

This week we are featuring Charlie and Jewel from the Pound Animal Welfare Society of Montclair Inc., or PAWS, in Montclair.

Charlie is an 8-year-old American Staffordshire terrier and hound mix who can be described as friendly, affectionate, gentle, playful and smart.

He was rescued by PAWS from an inner-city shelter in 2021 and adopted into a wonderful home. Unfortunately, his owner died and their family members could not keep Charlie.

He is an exceptional dog and all who have met him agree! He is very smart, loves people, and has impeccable house training. Although he is a strong boy, coming in at 70 pounds, he is not at all destructive. He loves riding in cars, has great energy, is very curious and loves to play.

Charlie would do well in a household where he is mentally stimulated, ideally with a backyard if possible. He loves meeting people and may even like a canine companion. Could Charlie be the perfect addition to your home?

Jewel is a female tabby cat who is estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old. She can be described as friendly, affectionate, loyal, gentle, playful, independent, and a couch potato.

PAWS does not know where Jewel originated aside from the fact that she was found riding in a car engine. When she was examined, it was found that she had already been spayed and even ear tipped so she could have been part of a trap, neuter and release program. She has since been tested, vaccinated and given a clean bill of health.

Jewel is so grateful to be safe and sound in her foster home. She is sweet, well-behaved and affectionate. She gets along well with the foster's small dog but they are not sure how she would be with other cats.

If you decide to bring Jewel into your home and heart, you will not be disappointed.
