Meet the KC Star/810 Varsity Team of the Week: Oak Park Northmen football

For the first time since the turn of the century, the Oak Park football team ended the regular season undefeated.

The Northmen enjoyed a 42-26 win on Friday night over Fort Osage to wrap up the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference Red Division title. The victory capped a perfect 9-0 regular season for the Northmen, their first undefeated campaign since 2000.

Oak Park, No. 4 in the latest 810 Varity Top 25 rankings, has scored 40 or more points in the past four games.

Leading the way are senior quarterback Aiden Hinkle and running back Travon Pankey. Hinkle has thrown for 761 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 500 yards and seven scores.

Pankey, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound running back, stands near the top of the Metro Player of the Year watch, with 1,449 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns. He has rushed for 125-plus yards in all but one game, and three or more touchdowns in seven games.

Defensively, the Northmen are led by junior linebackers Camarion Wahl (82 tackles, eight for loss) and Caedin Fields (73 tackles, 11 for loss). Senior defensive end Ben Brandes has registered seven tackles for loss and a team-high four sacks.

Oak Park has picked off opponents a whopping 19 times, led by juniors Emanuel Kok (six interceptions) and Donovan Ross (four).

The Northmen earned a bye in Missouri Class 6, taking on the winner of Staley vs Park Hill South next Friday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m.
