Meet Gaston County Schools' star teachers and students of the year
Gaston County’s star students and teachers were recognized recently at a ceremony that took place at Gaston Early College High School.
As is tradition, each high school chose one stand-out senior to be honored as its 2024 star student, and the student recognized one teacher that had a positive impact on their educational journey.
Here’s a rundown of each Gaston County High School’s star teacher and student.
Ashbrook High School
Sarah Bell, Ashbrook High’s star student, selected Gardner Park Elementary school teacher and her own former kindergarten teacher Angela Salgado as her star teacher.
Bell plans to attend college and become a kindergarten teacher herself after graduation.
Bessemer City High School
Star student Megan Millsaps chose her Health Science I and Biomedical Technology teacher Katie Pasour Brotherton as her star teacher.
Millsaps plans to attend Chowan University after graduation.
Cherryville High School
Star student Harleigh LaRoche chose Houston Gilmore as her star teacher.
LaRoche plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte after graduation.
Stuart W. Cramer High School
Star Student Ainsley VanderMeer chose Mindee Mammano as her star teacher.
VanderMeer plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduation.
East Gaston High School
Star student Shelden Clark chose star teacher Brandon Taylor.
Clark plans to major in aerospace engineering after graduation.
Forestview High School
Star student Riley Rouse chose star teacher Lindsey Dickerson-Beverly.
Rouse plans to attend Clemson university after graduation.

Star Student Patrick Nanney chose star teacher Rachel Drake.
Nanney plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduation.
