Meet the Detroit Free Press 2024 girls basketball Dream Team and All-State teams
Meet the 2024 Detroit Free Press' girls basketball Dream Team and All-State teams:
Gabby Reynolds (captain)
School: Holland West Ottawa
Vitals: 5-foot-9, senior, guard
Stats: 29.9 points per game, scoring over 30 points 15 times and scoring 47 points in a game this year.
The buzz:Reynolds was named Miss Basketball and ended up finishing with 1,899 career points. She has signed to play in college for George Washington.
West Ottawa coach Paul Chapman: “Gabby had a dominant season on her way to winning Miss Basketball. She meant everything to our team as a leader, hard worker, great teammate and carried a heavy load on both ends of the floor. She is the most impactful player I have ever had the privilege to coach in this great game.”
Summer Davis
School: West Bloomfield
Vitals: 5-9, senior, guard
Stats: 18.2 points per game, shot 41% from 3-point range.
The buzz: One half of West Bloomfield’s sister duo that propelled it to a second Division 1 state title in three years, Summer Davis was the bigger perimeter threat and shot the lights out for most of the year. She has signed with Georgia.
West Bloomfield coach Darrin McAllister: “Summer had the ability to shoot the 3-point shot and her leadership made her special. She was able to get the team to follow here in every capacity.”
MORE FROM McCABE: West Bloomfield's Davis twins star together, but have their differences, too
Indya Davis
School: West Bloomfield
Vitals: 5-9, senior, forward
Stats: 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds per game, shot 50% from the field.
The buzz: More of an interior presence, Indya Davis could also be a factor from the perimeter. There was no bigger shot this season than the 3-pointer she banked in at the end of regulation to force overtime in a semifinal win over Rockford. She also has signed with Georgia.
McAllister: “Indya shares the same leadership abilities (as Summer). She was more of a hands-on leader. Her versatility on the court was unmatched. She could play in the post, on the wing and could take the big shot.”
Madison Morson
School: Plymouth Salem
Vitals: 5-8, senior, guard
Stats: Averaged 25 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.3 steals a game.
The buzz: Signed with Central Michigan, Morson had 65 consecutive games scoring in double-figures and scored a school-record 44 points earlier this season in a game against Farmington Hills Mercy. She finished her career with over 1,500 career points.
MORE FROM McCABE: How Madison Morson went from best kept secret to 'best player in the state'
Salem coach Rod Wells: “It is a joy to coach a team when your best players is your hardest worker. Maddie can score from all three levels. Her pull-up jump shot is phenomenal. She is the most athletic player in the state.”
Lily Zeinstra
School: Byron Center
Vitals: 5-11, senior, guard
Stats: Averaged 25 points, nine rebounds, 3.4 steals and 3.2 assists per game.
The buzz: Zeinstra was a scoring machine for Byron Center, collecting 39 points against Grandville and 38 points against Greenville. She has signed to play in college for Butler.
Byron Center coach Cameron Burns: “Lily was a fantastic leader that was vocal in practice, teaching her teammates as a ‘player-coach’ anything new we tried to install. Her basketball IQ was advanced and her effort was even better. She was always first in sprints, first in drills and wanted to win any competitions we had.”
Coach: Ryan Reichel
School: Ishpeming
Not only did Ishpeming win its first regional title in 50 years and its first ever state title by easily capturing the Division 4 crown, but the Hematites were so powerful that they might have made a deep run in the state tournament if they were in any of the other divisions. The only loss of the season for Ishpeming was a defeat to Division 2 semifinalist Negaunee, a team Ishpeming split two regular season games with.
“This run didn’t happen by accident,” Reichel said. “These girls lived in the gym. They had the talent but they put those tools to work. It wasn’t given to them. It was earned.”
