Meet The Clarion Ledger's 2024 Small School all-state high school softball teams

The Clarion Ledger has put together its Small Class all-state high school softball first and second teams after the 2024 season finished in Hattiesburg last month. The two teams are comprised of MHSAA athletes in Classes 1A-3A.

Here is who made the teams.

First Team

Pitchers

Lucy Cochran

Freshman | East Union

Cochran had a 22-4 record with a 1.18 ERA and 245 strikeouts. She also had a .333 batting average with 30 hits and 33 RBIs. Cochran helped East Union win the Class 2A state title and won the 2A Miss Softball for the second consecutive year.

Ramsey Montgomery

Senior | Mantachie

Montgomery, a Northeast Community College signee, posted a 0.98 ERA with 330 strikeouts in 211 innings pitched. She also had a .398 batting average with 45 hits, 15 extra-base hits and 33 RBIs. Montgomery helped Mantachie win the MHSAA Class 3A state championship and she won 3A Miss Softball.

Catchers

Maddi Byrd

Junior | Pisgah

Byrd recorded a .577 batting average with a .667 on-base percentage and 59 RBIs on 56 hits. Byrd helped Pisgah to the Class 2A state title game.

Adison Russell

Freshman | East Union

Russell had a .443 batting average and a .524 on-base percentage with 47 hits, 27 RBIs and 30 runs scored. Russell did not strike out in 34 games. Russell helped East Union to win the Class 2A state title.

Infielders

Lillianna Cates

Junior | Mantachie

Cates hit .504 with 61 hits, six home runs and 42 RBIs. Cates helped Mantachie win the Class 3A state championship.

Jaycee Holifield

Junior | Stringer

Holifield, a Jones College commit, had a .505 batting average with 48 hits, 36 runs scored and 56 RBIs. Holifield helped Stringer to a Class 1A state final appearance.

Emma Mayer

Senior | Myrtle

Mayer, a Northwest Mississippi Community College signee, helped lead Myrtle to a 23-7 record and hit .449 with 43 hits, 11 home runs and 46 RBIs. Mayer won Miss Softball for Class 1A.

Brooklyn Mitchell

Senior | St. Patrick

Mitchell recorded a .538 batting average with 45 RBIs and 50 hits. Mitchell helped St. Patrick to an appearance in the Class 3A state final series.

Outfielders

Hallie Benson

Senior | Smithville

Benson, a Holmes College signee, hit .486 with 47 runs scored, 48 RBIs and eight home runs. Benson also had a 9-4 record on the mound.

Hadley James

Senior | Kossuth

James produced a .490 batting average with 49 hits, 15 extra-base hits and 14 RBIs, helping Kossuth to a 25-5 record.

Tara Nasakaitis

Sophomore | St. Patrick

Nasakaitis produced a .471 batting average with 49 hits and 43 stolen bases, helping lead St. Patrick to an appearance in the Class 3A state final series.

Utility

Lizzie Meeks

Senior | Pine Grove

Meeks produced a 1.64 ERA with a 21-7 record and 186 strikeouts with 162 innings pitched. She also had a .500 batting average with 46 RBIs and 47 hits. Meeks helped Pine Grove win its first state title in Class 1A.

Mallory E. Sanders

Senior | Wesson

Sanders hit .500 with 31 hits and 25 RBIs. She also produced a 1.63 ERA with 259 strikeouts in 132⅔ innings pitched.

Pitcher: Alanee Wheeler, Union, Junior

Catcher: Hannah Buckley, Stringer, Senior

Catcher: Aubrey Pardue, Puckett, Junior

Infielder: Marlee Dampeer, Puckett, Senior

Infielder: Emma Jennings, East Webster, Senior

Infielder: Maddix Lambert, Booneville, Freshman

Infielder: Mollie Reaves, West Union, Sophomore

Outfielder: Caydance Brumfield, West Marion, Junior

Outfielder: Ally Murphy, Mrytle, Junior

Outfielder: Cheyenne Warrington, Puckett, Sophomore

Utility: Maddie Mask, Kossuth, Senior

Utility: Alyssa McMurtrey, Pisgah, Eighth Grade
