The Paris Olympics are just around the corner, and the U.S. team is beginning to take shape.

In tennis, the rankings on the professional men's and women's tours determine who will qualify, and they are taken from right after the end of the French Open (drawing on points earned from June 11, 2023 through June 10, 2024). A nation competing in the Olympics can qualify up to four players per gender in singles, and can also bring two more men and two more women to compete in doubles and mixed doubles. (Qualified singles players can also compete in the doubles tournaments.)

One wrinkle of the Paris Olympics is that they will be played on the clay courts at Roland Garros, and top players may be reluctant to play on the surface just as the U.S. hard court swing is beginning. So, even though Madison Keys, Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, and Sebastian Korda all mathematically qualified, they decided to opt out, freeing up a space for another American player.

Here's the 11 tennis players who will represent Team USA in Paris:

Coco Gauff

Age: 20

Hometown: Delray Beach, Florida

Current Ranking: 2

Earlier this year, Gauff became the first American to qualify for the Olympics in tennis.

"For me, the Olympics is a top priority. I would say equal to the Grand Slams. I wouldn't put it above or below just because I've never played before. This is my first time. Obviously, I always want to do well, try to get a medal. Yeah, I mean, but the prep is going to be interesting because I've never done the grass-to-clay transition before," she said earlier this year.

Gauff will play singles, and doubles with Pegula.

Jessica Pegula

Age: 30

Hometown: Buffalo, New York

Current Ranking: 5

Pegula didn't play for a few months this spring, but is in the middle of a major comeback, winning her first title on grass at the Berlin Open in late June. This will be her second Olympics, and she'll play singles and doubles with her long-time partner, Coco Gauff.

Danielle Collins

Age: 30

Hometown: St. Petersburg, Florida

Current Ranking: 11

This is Collins's final year on tour, and in her last year as a professional tennis player, she qualified for her first Olympics. "I would love nothing more to represent my country. My favorite memories on the court are honestly the weeks at the Billie Jean King Cup. There’s nothing, nothing like it," she said previously.

She'll play singles, and doubles with Desirae Krawczyk.

Emma Navarro

Age: 23

Hometown: New York, New York

Current Ranking: 19

Navarro is also making her Olympic debut, ranking a career-high No. 17 at the time of team nominations. It's been a big 2024 for the New Yorker: She won her first WTA singles title, and made it to the Round of 16 at Roland Garros.

Desirae Krawczyk

Age: 30

Hometown: Palm Desert, California

Current Ranking (Doubles): 12

Krawczyk, a doubles specialist, is the fifth women's tennis player going to Paris. She'll play with Danielle Collins (the two have played doubles together previously, winning a title in Charleston last year). Krawczyk is a four-time Grand Slam champion in mixed doubles (Wimbledon in 2022 and the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in 2021).

Taylor Fritz

Age: 26

Hometown: Rancho Santa Fe, California

Current Ranking: 13

When the team was announced, Fritz was the top-ranked American men's player (he was overtaken by his friend and teammate Tommy Paul shortly after, but the two are neck-and-neck). He's reached a career high no. 5 in singles, and has won even career ATP singles titles.

Fritz will play singles, and doubles with Paul.

Tommy Paul

Age: 27

Hometown: Voorhees, New Jersey

Current Ranking: 12

Paul played in the Tokyo Olympics, and is looking forward to playing in Paris. "I’m super excited to play, and hopefully take home a medal for our country. That’s always been the dream," he said in an interview earlier this year. "In a lot of other sports, you train and peak at the Olympics, and train harder to get there. Our season is constant throughout the year, so there isn’t a dedicated ramp up; you always have to be consistent in your game. It’s an interesting sport in that respect. I’m not treating it differently than any other tournaments. I want to do as well as I can, but every tournament I play, I want to win just as badly."

Paul will play singles, and doubles with Fritz.

He's a doubles specialist, winning 31 career ATP doubles titles, and four major doubles titles (Australian Open 2020 and the U.S. Open for the last three years). He's set to play doubles.
