Meet the 2024 All-Greater Rochester Girls Indoor Track and Field Team Team

The All-Greater Rochester Girls Indoor Track and Field Team was selected by coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle sportswriters and Jim Castor, a retired assistant sports editor of the Democrat and Chronicle who has covered running in the Rochester area for more than five decades.

Athlete of the Year

Year: Senior

Parents: Lisa and Rodolfo Griffith

Events: Sprints, jumps and relays.

Key accomplishments: Six-time AGR first-teamer. Beat her previous state record triple jump with a 43-foot, 3-inch leap at state qualifiers to become No. 8 all-time for high school girls in the United States, then won triple jump double gold at states and a second and third in long jump at states.

Future plans: Attending Harvard University to study biology and compete in track.

Year: Senior

Parents: Kristen and Jeremiah Brandt

Events: Triple jump and long jump.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Won A4 sectionals with season-best 18 feet, 4 inches, No. 4 on the Sec. V leaderboard and connected on a 37-5 triple jump at state qualifiers, third on the leaderboard.

Future plans: Attending St. John Fisher University with nursing as a probable major.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Nicole Kingsley Brunner and Adam Brunner

Events: Throws.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Fifth at public school states and sixth in federations. Number one freshman in the country in the weight throw with a 47-7.5 at state qualifiers at Nazareth.

Future plans: Hopes to study finance and business in college and compete in track and field.

Year: Junior

Parents: Bridget and Andy Carey

Events: Throws.

Key accomplishments: Won Class A1 sectional titles in shot put and weight throw. Season-best shot put 37-5 at state qualifiers, No. 2 on Section V leaderboard.

Future plans: Looking at colleges in the Northeast to study sociology or marketing management and compete in shot put and weight throw.

Year: Junior

Parents: Shanna and Scott Cialini

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Running a personal best 7.29 in the 55 at states, fourth-best on the leaderboard and tied for 29th-best in the state. Ran opening leg on team's 1:46.40 800 relay at Nike nationals.

Future plans: Intends to study biology and pre-veterinary science in college and compete in track.

Year: Junior

Parents: Anne and Matt Devine

Events: Distance.

Key accomplishments: Four-time AGR first-teamer. After winning state qualifiers in 4:49.81, ran a season best 4:46.82 in the 1,500 at states, best in Section V all season.

Future plans: To run in college and study psychology.

Year: Senior

Parents: Carmel and Jean-Claude Dorval

Events: Sprints, jumps and relays.

Key accomplishment: Running 41.41 seconds in the 300 to be a double winner at A2 sectionals. "I worked really hard to improve my time and to break the school record that had been standing for over two decades."

Future plans: Compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris with Haiti's national team and then attend college to study computer science and cyber security.

Year: Senior

Parents: Christina and Daniel Dubois

Event: Race walk.

Key accomplishments: Five-time AGR first-teamer, since eighth grade. Set a personal record of 6:54.48 in the 1,500 race walk at states for double bronze medals, best on Section V's leaderboard by 40 seconds.

Future plans: Attending Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pa., to study hospitality business management and to continue both cross country and track and field careers.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Carrie and Robert Goodell

Events: Hurdles and sprints.

Key accomplishments: Ran a personal-best 8.51 in the 55 hurdles at states after winning A1 sectionals in 8.74 and state qualifiers in 8.62. Ranks No. 1 among freshmen on Section V's all-time list and 14th overall.

Future plans: "Continue improving throughout high school and possibly compete at the collegiate level."

Year: Junior

Parents: Sheila and Tyler Harding

Event: Pole vault.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. After winning A4 sectionals at 11 feet even, cleared a season-best 11-3 at state qualifiers and went on to finish 7th and 8th (medaling) with another 11-0 at states, despite being injured all season with shin splints and a stress fracture just recently diagnosed.

Future plans: Plans to study kinesiology and exercise science in college to become a chiropractor/physical therapist or possibly a physician's assistant.

Year: Senior

Parents: Danyelle and Eric Hildreth

Events: Middle distance, distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Broke Mendon's school record in the 3,000 with a 10:14.90 at states, best time in the section this year, and hit the section's fourth-best time in the 1,000 to win A2 sectionals with a 3:04.00.

Future plans: Attending Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. to study sports management and run Division 1 cross country and track.

Year: Junior

Parents: Daisy Ragland and Miguel Martinez

Events: Sprints.

Key accomplishments: Running a 40.81 300 at states, second-best on the leaderboard and 27th-best in the state. Competes on the combined team of Franklin, Northeast Academy, SOTA and World of Inquiry.

Future plans: Undecided, but hopes to study kinesiology in college.

Year: Junior

Parents: Katie and James Oswald

Events: Throws.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Threw the shot 39 feet in a regular-season league meet at Houghton, breaking Wellsville's indoor record of 37-7.

Future plans: Hopes to major in exercise science or biology in college.

Year: Senior

Parent: Wendy Reback

Events: Middle distance, distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Five-time AGR first-teamer. Ran Section V's second-fastest 1,500 of the season at states in 4:48.20. Ran 5:08 in the 1,600 at the Spire Scholastic Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo to study biology, possibly minoring in physics.

Year: Junior

Parents: Jessica and John Riley

Events: Middle distance.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Recorded the season's second-best 1,500 time with a 4:51.13 at a Monroe County league meet at RIT.

Future plans: Hopes to study psychology and run in college.

Year: Junior

Parents: Elizabeth and Charles Riley

Events: Long sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Leads the section with a 1:38.01 in the 600 at states, 31st best time in New York.

Future plans: Studying environmental science and running Division 1 track in college.

Year: Senior

Parents: Katie and Steve Rudnicki

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Broke school record with a personal-best 40.71 in the 300 at state qualifiers, No. 1 on the leaderboard and 12th all-time in Section V. Eighth on the leaderboard in the 55 at 7.38.

Future plans: Wants to study elementary education or graphic design and run in college.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Carolyn and Mark Schroeder

Events: Long sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Won A1 sectionals 600 in 1:38.22, second-best time in the section and second-best freshman time in the state and country. Anchored Schroeder's 800 relay to double fourth-place medals at states in 1:44.37, tied for 5th all-time in Section V.

Future plans: Hopes for a career in the medical field.

Year: Junior

Parents: Laura and Scott Smith

Events: Middle distance, distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Eight-time AGR first-teamer. Sectional A1 champion in the 3,000, 1,500 and 3,200 relay and "my team winning the sectional title." Second on the leaderboard in the 1,000 (2:58.67), fourth in the 1,500 (4:53.22) and third in the 3,000 (10:27.39).

Future plans: Attending college and running track and cross country.

Year: Junior

Parents: Christa and Matt Tytler

Events: Middle distance, distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Top 1,000 leaderboard time by winning A1 sectionals in 2:58.67. Fourth fastest in Section V in 600 with 1:39.99 at the Monroe County championships.

Future plans: Undecided.

Coach of the Year

Professions: Retired manufacturing operations manager/golf course maintenance supervisor/coach.

Varsity coaching experience: Fifteen-time AGR coach of the year in 24 years at R-H. Indoor girls teams have won 10 sectional titles since 2010. His 1,600 sprint medley relay in 2015 at states remains the national record-holder in the event (3:52.68). Coached 12 All-Americans, 7 national champions, 25 state champions, 74 state medalists, 74 sectional champions and has had at least one individual or relay at indoor states since 2004.

Family: Patricia McKee, sons Patrick DeMay, Tyler DeMay, Zachary DeMay.
