Meet the 2024 All-Greater Rochester Boys Indoor Track and Field Team

The All-Greater Rochester Boys Indoor Track and Field Team was selected by coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff and Jim Castor, a retired assistant sports editor of the Democrat and Chronicle who has covered running in the Rochester area for more than five decades.

Athlete of the Year

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Emily Bryant and Joseph Lord

Events: Triple jump and long jump.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Won double gold medals for his 49-foot, one-half inch triple jump at states. It’s New York state’s best this season, No. 6 nationally and is second all-time in Section V.

Future plans: Hopes to major in computer science and engineering and compete in track and field in college.

Year: Senior

Parent/guardian: Rachelle Williams and Michelle Stagles

Events: Wheelchair 55-meter, 300 and shot put.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Setting personal bests of 14.31 in the 55 at A5 sectionals, 1:15.31 in the 300 and an 11-foot throw in shot put at the Wayne-Finger Lakes league championships. Also became the first high school wheelchair athlete in state history to compete in and win a 300-meter race on a banked track.

Future plans: Attending SUNY Oswego to study toward becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

Year: Senior

Parents: Terri and Rob Dickerson

Events: Middle distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. His personal-best 4:22.6 opening 1,600 leg of Section V’s intersectional distance medley relay at states set the stage for winning double gold in the event, first time in more than 20 years for Section V.

Future plans: Attending Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., to study pastoral ministry.

Year: Senior

Parents: Mandy and Jack Elliot

Events: Middle distance and relays.

Key accomplishment: Ran Section V’s fastest 300 of the season – 1:23.26 – for a top 10 finish at states, also breaking the school record. It ranks 22nd in the state for the season.

Future plans: Study aerospace engineering and run track in college.

Year: Senior

Parent: Diana Fisher

Events: Middle distance and distance.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Set a personal best with Section V’s fastest time of the season in the 1,600 at states – 4:19.65, a school record. Also set school records in the 1,000 (2:33.09) and 3,200 (9:27.67), both at the Monroe County championships.

Future plans: Attending Canisius University to study sports and exercise health care and run cross country and track.

Year: Senior

Parent: Michele Giglia

Events: Distance.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Ran his best race of the season at states, a personal-best 4:19.59 1,600 for a 10th-place finish. It’s ranked 11th in the state and is No. 1 on Section V’s leaderboard.

Future plans: Attending Canisius University to study accounting and finance.

Year: Sophomore

Parent: Yolanda Kaulder

Events: Sprints, horizontal jumps and relays.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Won the 55 and long jump at A1 sectionals, helped break the sprint medley relay and 800 relay school records and scored podium finishes in the 55 and long jump (two silver medals) at states.

Future plans: “Keep working hard.” Hopes to attend Texas Tech to study biology/sports medicine or electrical engineering.

Parent: Chakapeah Leonard

Events: Sprints, hurdles and relays.

Key accomplishments: “Competing at states,” where he was 10th in public school competition in 55 hurdles with a 7.90, after qualifying the week before with his personal best, 7.78, No. 3 on the leaderboard. Competed on Franklin’s combined team.

Future plans: Attend a trade school to become an electrician and carpenter.

Year: Senior

Parents: Lori Barnard-Northrup and Craig Northrup

Events: Throws.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Won double gold at states in shot put and double silver in weight throw. Threw 58-1.5 at a Monroe County league meet to break his outdoor shot put personal best and broke the 20-meter barrier in weight throw with a 66-foot throw at the same meet. Both rank No. 3 in the state.

Future plans: Attending Cornell to major in nutritional science with a minor in applied exercise science.

Year: Senior

Parents: Hilary Hagen and Vincent Pagano

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Double medalist at states in the 55 (third and fourth) with a personal-best 6.42, just .01 off Section V’s top leaderboard time and tying for fourth-best in the state. Third on the leaderboard at 35.25 in the 300. Ran second leg on the sprint medley relay that broke the Section V record with a 3:30.84 at New Balance nationals.

Future plans: Undecided on college but wants to study finance and accounting.

Year: Senior

Parents: Brittani and Ronald Palermo

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Earned All-America honors running first leg of Hilton’s sixth-place 800 relay in 1:30.16 at Nike nationals. Same team also won double silver medals at states in 1:29.65 and broke the Section V record in the preliminaries in 1:29.18.

Future plans: Attending Penn State on scholarship to run track and study kinesiology.

Year: Senior

Parents: Amy and Jeff Passalugo

Events: Distance.

Key accomplishments: Five-time AGR first-teamer. Set a personal best of 9:09.33 in the 3,200 at states, earning double medals, with Section V’s best time all season and seventh best in the state and 24th best nationally.

Future plans: Attending Siena College to study marketing and run track and cross country.

Year: Senior

Parent: Antwanita Miles

Events: Horizontal jumps.

Key accomplishments: Won sixth- and eighth-place medals at states with a 43-8 triple jump, second-best on Sec. V’s leaderboard and is fourth on the long jump leaderboard at 23-0, breaking his school record at New Balance nationals.

Future plans: Attending Finger Lakes Community College and hopefully Penn State to complete a four-year degree in kinesiology.

Year: Junior

Parents: Kirsten and John Shea

Events: Middle distance and relays.

Key accomplishments: Winning the 1,000, helping the 3,200 relay win at A2 sectionals and winning the 1,000 at state qualifiers. Second-fastest leaderboard time in the 1,000 in 2:34.23, No. 15 in the state.

Future plans: Hopes to run in college and study math and the sciences.

Year: Senior

Parent: Tannya Thomas

Event: Hurdles.

Key accomplishments: “Making history for my school by being the first to go to states and nationals.” Led all Section V 55 hurdlers with a season-best 7.59 at state qualifiers, 8th on the state leaderboard. Finished 9th and 11th at states in 7.89.

Future plans: Hopes to attend SUNY Brockport and run track.

Year: Senior

Parents: Shykeria Searles and Tyrell Simmons Sr.

Events: Jumps.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer (football wide receiver and tight end). Won two silver medals for high jumping his career best 6-8 at states, tied for third best in the state. Fifth on the Section V leaderboard with a 44-11.5 triple jump, 13th- best in the state.

Future plans: Attending University at Buffalo to study business management and play Division 1 football.

Year: Senior

Parents: Vanessa and Justin Sinclair

Event: Pole vault

Key accomplishments: Cleared a personal best 14 feet to win state qualifiers at Nazareth, one of just 13 to clear that height in New York. Finished 10th at states.

Future plans: Attending Nazareth University and will continue vaulting. Undecided on a major.

Year: Junior

Parents: Holly Rademacker and Jason Siverling

Events: Throws.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first-teamer. Threw the shot 58-10 at Nike nationals to break his school indoor record, 2nd-longest in the state. Won both throws at A2 sectionals, with a personal best 60-3.25 mark with the weight, 14th in the state.

Future plans: Wants to attend a major university to study business administration and management and continue his throwing career.

Year: Junior

Parents: Lynne and Andrew Tempest

Events: Distance.

Key accomplishments: Three-time AGR first teamer. Set a personal best 9:16.49 to finish 8th and 12th at states in the 3,200, 12th-best time in New York. Finished 29th of 50 in a personal best 15:13 for the 5,000 at Nike nationals.

Future plans: Study business courses and run competitively in college.

Year: Freshman

Parent: Latoya Poinsette

Event: Sprints, high jump and relays.

Key accomplishments: No. 1 freshman high jumper in the country with a 6-8 leap in a league meet in late December at RIT. Also No. 1 freshman all-time in Section V and tied for ninth overall. Double-medaled at states (two fourths) jumping 6-6.

Future plans: To attend college and compete all three seasons, in football, basketball and track.

Year: Senior

Parent: Sherry Kitchens

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Won state public schools 300 championship with season-best 34.35, state’s third-best time and No. 2 all-time in Section V. Competed on Franklin’s combined team.

Future plans: Attending Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas.

Coach of the Year

Profession: Seventh grade level manager (dean) at UPrep.

Varsity coaching experience: AGR indoor track athlete of the year for Greece Athena in 2011-2012 and Section V 300 record-holder has coached UPrep indoor and outdoor since 2019. Won first outdoor sectional title last spring and first indoor sectional title in school history this year.
