'It would mean the world to represent where I'm from': Oshkosh native Haliburton named to USA Olympic team

INDIANAPOLIS - USA Basketball formally announced Wednesday morning that Oshkosh native and North High School graduate Tyrese Haliburton made the final roster for the Paris Olympics upcoming in July.

Haliburton will team up with a star-studded roster headlined by NBA veterans including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Kawhi Leonard, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Bam Adebayo.

Haliburton said in an interview with the Indianapolis Star that he grew up wearing Team USA jerseys of James, Curry, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and that it would be especially meaningful to him to be on the team to represent his hometown.

"It would mean the world, not just for me, but to represent where I'm from," Haliburton told the Indy Star. "I don't know if anyone's ever played in the Olympics or done anything in the Olympics where I'm from. Even in my area, you know what I mean? That would be cool to represent where I'm from, my family and this organization. It would be awesome."

The 24-year-old, two-time NBA All-Star - and this season's assists leader - will lead the Indiana Pacers against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
