This ‘Mean Girls’ Actress Nearly Took Anne Hathaway's Place in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

The actress continued, "But I got it! Hang in there, never give up!" *Cue mic drop.*

Hathaway never mentioned who the first choice was, but according to Variety, Fox was pursuing Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams for Andy's role. McAdams reportedly turned down the offer multiple times because she wanted to avoid mainstream material. And after Fox didn't land any of its first picks, they decided to give Hathaway a call.

"I had to be patient. I wasn’t the first choice," Hathaway told Variety. "I was putting on a shirt. I had some buddies over. I remember running out in my living room, half dressed, screaming—I got The Devil Wears Prada! I got The Devil Wears Prada!"

It turns out this wasn't the only difficult casting decision, because director David Frankel considered more than 100 actresses for the role of Emily Charlton. Luckily for him, Emily Blunt happened to be auditioning for another Fox project, and after a casting agent had her audition for the role of Emily (in jeans and flip-flops, we might add), Frankel was sold. Blunt recalled getting the good news and said, "I was in some dive club in London. I called him back from the bathroom. He said, ‘Listen I would have cast you off the tape, but the studio wants to see you one more time. Can you do what you did but dress the part more?’"

Clearly, Frankel and his team were on to something when they hired these ladies.
