McLaren's Lando Norris Out Early in Miami Sprint After Aston Martin Teammates Make Contact

Early Saturday afternoon in the Miami Grand Prix, Lando Norris was wrapped up in a first lap, first turn incident as the two Aston Martin’s of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll touched and spun in a packed sector while Lewis Hamilton tried to pass on the inside of the corner.

From above, you can see Alonso stay in the middle of the turn instead of diving deeper as Lewis Hamilton was attempting a pass on the inside, this pushes Alonso into his teammate Stroll's line.

Over the radio, Alonso said that Hamilton was coming through 'like a bull' and his move was a defensive maneuver to protect his car.

Alonso could return to the race with a function, but both Stroll and Lando Norris, who had high hopes after practice but a subpar qualifying pushed him to the middle of the pack, received the lion's share of the damage.

Norris exited his MCL 38 on the track, and while nothing is being investigated further by the stewards in the on-track accident, Norris' foot entry to the track will be after the race.

"Nothing I could have done," Norris told Sky Sports, "It’s a bit stupid in a sprint race without many points."

Norris, in part, blamed his poor performance in sprint qualification for his early out in the sprint. He qualified ninth, three positions behind his teammate Oscar Piastri.

“Car’s been good all weekend, Norris told Sky Sports, "Today, we paid the price of being back with some of the people that are a bit more careless”

While the Saftey Car was deployed, Esteban Ocon was able to serve his 10-second penalty received after hitting Charles Leclerc on the pit lane prior to the start of the race.
