McLaren Northern Michigan brings back Children’s Health Fair on April 6

PETOSKEY — McLaren Northern Michigan will revive its Children’s Health Fair for the first time since 2019 with a fun and free event on April 6.

The Children’s Health Fair will celebrate its 30th year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Petoskey Middle School.

“We have been eagerly anticipating the day when we could bring this event back, and now that the time has come, we could not be more excited,” said Jennifer Collison, McLaren Northern Michigan obstetric and pediatric nurse manager. “For decades, this event has been a tradition for local families, and we are confident that there will be something fun for everyone to enjoy. It is a great opportunity to engage children in healthy habits and provide parents with various resources that are available in our community.”

The event will include family-friendly activities that also highlight best practices to keep children safe and healthy.

Along with the Super Hero Fun Run, activities will include a petting zoo, prize drawings, arts and crafts, first responder vehicles, live music and other hands-on entertainment.

Several McLaren Northern Michigan care services will be in attendance, including obstetrics, emergency and trauma medicine, stroke, pediatric rehabilitation and the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Other representatives from various local agencies will also be on site, including: Northern Michigan Community Childhood Development Center, the Geeks, Gears, & Gadgets Petoskey Middle School Robotics team, Concord Academy of Petoskey, Char-Em ISD Early Education & Great Start Collaborative, Char-Em ISD Early Childhood Program, Therapy Solutions, Boyne Area Gymnastics, Petoskey District Library, Pregnancy Care Center, Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan, the United Way, Charlevoix Community Pool, Crooked Tree Wellness Clinic, North Country Community Mental Health, MDHHS, Petoskey Pediatric Dentistry, Child Abuse and Prevention Education (CAPE), North Central Michigan College Child Care Initiative and the NCMC Student Nurse Association.

“It is part of the fabric of our organization to be community-focused and provide for the health and wellbeing of our region both inside our facilities and out in the neighborhood,” said Gar Atchison, president and CEO of McLaren Northern Michigan. “Providing health care professionals with this level of knowledge and experience to this event is a worthy undertaking and one we are proud to commit to.”

Lunch will be provided at a $2 donation per plate.
