McDonald’s is testing the new Chicken Big Mac in the Miami area. Will you try it?

Remember the old McDonald’s jingle that listed its big burger’s ingredients in song? “Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun.”

Now, hold the onions and swap out the beef patties. There’s a new meal in Miami that will give chicken nugget lovers the Big Mac experience.

McDonald’s new Chicken Big Mac brings together two crispy tempura chicken “patties,” American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles and the iconic Big Mac sauce. Fast-foodies in the United Kingdom apparently loved it. The chicken nugget-style Big Mac sold out about 10 days after its debut.

It’s kind of like a secret menu item at the moment. You won’t find the Chicken Big Mac plastered on the menu at your local McDonald’s or at the self-ordering kiosks (at least in our case). You’ll have to use the app — or speak to an employee — to find out if your local McDonald’s is offering it.

Remember, this is a test run, which means the Chicken Big Mac will be here for a limited time while the fast-food giant decides whether this meal is worthy of becoming a signature dish.

How does the Chicken Big Mac taste?

Let’s take a bite and see. Hmm ... It’s just like a Big Mac, except with two poultry patties that taste just like Chicken McNuggets.

What do burger lovers think of the Chicken Big Mac?

South Florida’s resident burger aficionado, food blogger Sef Gonzalez, aka Burger Beast, wrote of his encounter with the new Mickey D’s reinvention for his blog this week, and we have to admit that his feature, I Ate the McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac, had us willing to cheat on our diets.

“The Chicken Big Mac will be enjoyed by folks who want both the good ol’ Big Mac and the Chicken McNuggets. Since I’m not much of a Big Mac fan — QPs 4 life,” he quipped in an email interview with the Miami Herald, “I’m perfectly content living my life without ever eating another one. However, if you like lettuce and bread, this is the sandwich for you.”

Though Burger Beast is a Quarter Pounder guy, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have Big Mac expertise.

“The best variation of the Big Mac has to be back in 2017 when McDonald’s introduced the single patty Mac Jr. and its mastodon of a brother, the Grand Mac, with one-third-pound patties. And I have to give some props to Burger King, though; while their Big King doesn’t have a club (middle bun), that stacker sauce along with the flame-grilled patties is a winner,” Gonzalez said.

Previous limited time offers

This also isn’t the first time fast-food favorites like McDonald’s and Miami-based Burger King have offered new spins on their classics or added wacky items to their menus as temporary attractions.

Sometimes it’s not even the food, but the toys that draw customers. For example, McDonald’s new return of its Pokémon Happy Meals and a recent tie-in with Marvel and its Avengers and Thor characters.

Who can forget Burger King’s Halloween-themed Whopper in 2015, with its black bun that infamously turned something you did a few hours later green? And the red-hot Angry Whopper? Or that Frozen Fanta Scary Black Cherry Slushie for Halloween in 2018 that similarly turned your poop shades of radioactive green?

Or the Tex-Mex styled Whopperito that managed to turn a Burger King Whopper into a burrito in 2016? Or the Mac-n-Cheetos fried sticks of macaroni dusted with Cheetos powder in 2016? Or McDonald’s rather tasty International sandwiches not long after those?

As for the Chicken Big Mac, time will tell if enough customers are lovin’ it.
