MCCC Band's finale concert of the season is May 6

MONROE — A guest saxophone soloist and clarinet ensemble will join Monroe County Community College's College/Community Symphony Band for its final concert of the season.

"Inspiration" will begin at 7:30 p.m. May 6 in the Meyer Theater, La-Z-Boy Center at MCCC, 1555 S. Raisinville Road. Admission is free.

"We have big things planned for our final concert," said Band Director Mark Felder. "One of our pieces will utilize a multimedia presentation."

Max Plank will have two alto saxophone solos.

"He is the former saxophone professor and director of bands at Eastern Michigan University," Felder said. "He will be playing a special piece written just for him titled 'Nightscape' by Stuart Glazer."

Plank also will have a saxophone solo on “Saxophobia,” arranged by Gunther Schuller.

The Licorice Chicks will perform with the band on “Irish Suite” by Elliot A. Del Borgo.

"We are also delighted to welcome The Licorice Chicks, a group of clarinet players, mostly for our band's clarinet section," Felder said.

Other pieces include “Grand Fanfare” by Giancarlo Castro D’Addona; “Atlantis” by Vincent Frank Safranek; “Sag Harbor Sunset” by Robert Sheldon; “Sailing with Whales” by Rossano Galante; “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik; and “La Mezquita de Cordoba” by Julie Giroux.
