Mayor of Kingstown: [Spoiler] Out Ahead of Season 3

Mayor of Kingstown will have to make do without its matriarch when the Paramount+ drama returns.

According to our sister pub Deadline, Dianne Wiest — who plays Mariam McLusky in Taylor Sheridan’s thriller — will not be returning for Season 3. Her departure was creatively driven, per the trade. (As you’ll recall, Mariam was shot in the stomach in the Season 2 finale.)

Kingstown star Jeremy Renner, who suffered 30 broken bones in a near-fatal snowplow accident in January, is confirmed to return in Season 3 as Mike McLusky, a former inmate whose family works as mediators between the street gangs, prisoners, guards and cops in the fictional town of Kingstown, Mich. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.

A Season 3 release date remains TBD given Renner’s recovery, not to mention the (now-resolved) WGA strike and (still-ongoing) SAG strike.

In addition to Renner, the Wiest-less Kingstown ensemble includes Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Aidan Gillen.
