New mayor elected in Milltown after final tally

It was a close race, but Milltown will have a new mayor beginning next year.

Republican challenger George Murray narrowly defeated Democratic Mayor Trina Jensen Mehr, 1,062 to 1,035, according to the official results.

GOP challengers Gary Posnansky and Frank Manco defeated Democratic incumbents Margaret O'Donnell and Joseph Pietanza for the Borough Council.

Posnansky received 1,103 votes, Manco received 1,061, while Pietanza received 995 and O'Donnell received 990.

"I wish George and everybody well," Mehr said. "We may disagree, but we all want to help our community. It will be a transition the next several weeks. It certainly was an honor and pleasure, and the best part was getting to know so many new people. The mayor's job is a lot of work, but I've really enjoyed it. Like anything else, there's a time to change and if that's what Milltown wants, I'll support it.

“We worked hard and did a lot of good things. It's been very rewarding for me, but now I can tackle different things, and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be around. I just won't be involved in the governing."
