Maurice Clarett Reacts To Ohio State Player Quitting Team

It’s been a wild weekend for Ohio State football fans in the wake of the K’Vaughan Pope controversy. After quitting the team on Saturday, Pope was dismissed by head coach Ryan Day on Sunday.

But while many people are criticizing Pope for his actions, he’s found one notable Ohio State alum as an ally. Former Buckeyes running back Maurice Clarett took to Twitter on Sunday and said that he’s rooting for Pope to turn things around.

Clarett called on Day to give Pope another chance with the team. He pointed out that Pope’s future could be adversely affected if his playing career is upended this early.

“I’m rooting for this young guy. S-t happens. [Ryan Day] I hope you give him another chance. Being derailed when you’re young can alter your future. Young guys need support when they f-k up! Keep your head up @VonP04,” Clarett tweeted.

K’Vaughan Pope joined the Buckeyes as a four-star linebacker in 2018 but struggled to break into the starting lineup in his first three years.

The final straw appeared to occur in Saturday’s game against Akron, when Pope attempted to get onto the field before being waved off by a teammate. Things escalated from there, culminating in Pope being escorted off the field and tweeting that he was done with the team.

The next day, Ryan Day announced his dismissal from the program:

“Senior linebacker K’Vaughan Pope has been dismissed from the Ohio State football team. K’Vaughan will continue to have the use of programs that benefit our student-athletes… He will remain on scholarship through the duration of his semester,” Day said in a statement.
