Matthew Perry's former co-star Ione Skye shed light on the two's longstanding friendship.
Sharing screenshots of her last text conversation with the Friends actor on social media, Skye also included a throwback photo of the two to honor his memory. Their friendship traces back about 35 years, as the two starred in the 1988 movie A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon–alongside the now late River Phoenix and Meredith Salenger–which also served as the late actor's film debut.
"Hi! I hope all is well," Perry began in the text conversation. "I was meditating (I meditate now) and ‘In Your Eyes’ started playing. And I instantly thought of how beautiful you are," he wrote, referencing the song that plays in Skye's 1989 film Say Anything.
"Awe. I love that. Xo," Skye, 53, wrote back, to which Perry replied, "Hope you are healthy and happy."
"Yes I am both. I think!" Skye continued, "Good to hear from you. I only have nice memories with you."
"Me too," Perry shared. "That one afternoon, I was just sitting in my apartment, and there you were!"
Though it's unclear if Skye responded after "liking" Perry's last text, she explained that the texts were only about a week old. "My last exchange a week ago," she wrote in the caption of her Oct. 29 Instagram upload. "I’m very very sad. Loved this guy."
Perry was only 54 when he tragically passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, following an apparent drowning just hours after he played a game of pickleball. Though an autopsy has yet to confirm his cause of death, preliminary reports suggest first responders were called to his Los Angeles-area home on Saturday after a call came in for a potential cardiac arrest.
Since his devastating passing, Perry's former castmates and the Friends creators, countless Hollywood stars, performers and his fans, have penned touching tributes online, erected memorials and one of his co-stars is even considering adopting the furbaby he left behind, a Golden Doodle named Alfred–ensuring the actor's talent and legacy will be treasured for years to come.
