What? Matt Hasselbeck compares Dallas Cowboys QB Cooper Rush to a Hall of Famer
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush is off to a fantastic start.
He has led the Cowboys to three straight wins heading into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
But is he playing at a Hall of Fame level?
Former NFL quarterback and current analyst Matt Hasselbeck compared Rush to a Hall of Famer on ESPN’S Sunday NFL Countdown.
“He’s not a game manager, he’s throwing dimes through double coverage, he said. “Cooper Rush is playing some of the best football in the NFL right now. It’s unbelievable.”
“You know who he reminds me of right now? Joe Montana.”
He credits Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy with Rush’s development.
McCarthy “trains quarterbacks the way he trained Joe Montana back in the day,” Hasselbeck said. “He’s (Cooper’s) got rhythm, timing, accuracy. He’s playing good football.”
Quite a lofty comparison. Let’s not get carried away.
Montana played 15 seasons, winning four Super Bowls. At the time of his retirement, he ranked fourth in passing touchdowns (273), passing yards (40,551) and attempts (5,391).
Rush has made four career NFL starts. throwing for 1,159 yards and seven touchdowns.
All of that said, he’s done something that Montana has never done. He’s never lost a NFL start. He’s 4-0 and hasn’t started a game that his team lost since 2016 as a senior at Central Michigan.
