Masters rookie Aberg has second round's lone score in the 60s

Competing in his first Masters Tournament, Ludvig Aberg carded a 69 on Friday — the lone participant to clip 70 in the second round.

The 24-year-old will receive a crystal vase for achieving the day’s low score.

“It was not easy,” Aberg said. “But I felt like I played pretty good. I especially read the greens well and hit the putts the way I wanted to.”

After making consecutive bogeys on Nos. 5-6, the Swede stormed into contention with circles on 12, 13 and 16. He enters moving day alone in seventh place at 2-under 142.

“Just keep the ball in front of me,” Aberg said of his mindset this weekend. “Try to be in the now as much as I can.”

When asked about balancing winning, while also relishing his maiden Masters, the Texas Tech product said, “When you're walking between the shots, you can soak it in as much as you can. But once you're over the ball, that's when you're in tournament mode. Then once you're done with that, back to soaking it in.”

Augusta hasn’t seen a first-timer leave in green since 1979, but as Wyndham Clark — a fellow Masters rookie — said earlier this week:

“Stats like that are meant to be broken.”
