Masters odds: Jordan Spieth, fresh off first win since 2017, is the most popular bet to win this week
From July of 2017 through this time last week, Jordan Spieth hadn't won a PGA Tour event.
Now bettors are confident he can win two in a row.
After a win at the Texas Open last week, Spieth is the most-best golfer to win this week's Masters at BetMGM. His name appears often on the most popular prop bets for the tournament as well.
If you believe that momentum matters going into a major golf tournament, Spieth is a reasonable bet. He's +1100, tied for the second-lowest odds.
Jordan Spieth is playing well
Spieth is the most-bet golfer to finish in the top five (+225 odds), to lead after the first round (+1800), and to be the top American finisher +750.
While Spieth hadn't won a tournament since the British Open in 2017, he has been playing very well since February. He finished tied for fourth at the Phoenix Open, tied for third at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, tied for fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then broke through with a two-stroke win at the Texas Open.
Spieth, of course, has a great history at Augusta National. He has two second-place finishes, a third-place finish and won it in 2015. His finish last year, tied for 46th, was his worst in seven Masters appearances. Bettors think that was a one-off.
It's hard to win any major. Dustin Johnson is the favorite at +900 and is always a threat to win. Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas are +1100 along with Spieth as the second-lowest odds to win. Plenty of golfers further down the odds are capable of playing great golf for four days and winning the Masters.
But early bettors seem pretty confident Spieth is the right pick.
More props at the Masters
Masters betting is about much more than just who will win.
Among the props on the event at BetMGM are common ones, like will a golfer finish in the top five, or top 10. The most popular props not along that track are "will there be a hole-in-one?" and "will there be a playoff?" The popular side of the hole-in-one bet is no at +125, and the playoff prop is getting most action on yes at +325.
You can bet on winning margin (two strokes at +400 is the popular play), will DeChambeau make the cut (yes, -110) and the nationality of the winner (American, -167). There are many other ways to bet the Masters. Searching through the props might take as long as the tournament itself.
But as of Tuesday, bettors are lining up behind Spieth in the most common bet. If he's in contention to win on Sunday, that will make for an interesting sweat for a lot of bettors.
