The Masters 2023 LIVE: Leaderboard and scores as play suspended due to weather

Play has been suspended as the Masters due to bad weather, following frightening scenes as trees collapsed near spectators at Augusta National. After an initial suspension due to the threat of lightning, high winds toppled several trees - with broadcast footage picking up one terrifying incident beside the 15th green. No one was injured, according to ESPN.

On the course, four-time major winner Brooks Koepka set an imposing clubhouse target of -12 after taking full advantage of ideal conditions earlier in the day to post a flawless 67, the joint-third lowest in tournament history

Rory McIlroy looks set to miss the halfway cut, however, after struggling to a hugely disappointing second round of 77 to finish five over par. The pre-tournament joint favourite was three shots outside the projected cut when he signed his card shortly before play was suspended.

Koepka shared the overnight lead with Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland after an opening 65 at Augusta National and was relishing an early start on Friday, with bad weather forecast later in the day.

Day two recap: McIlroy misses the cut

22:11 , Ben Fleming

Many fancied Rory McIlroy coming into the week. A good finish at the WGC Matchplay a fortnight prior and with changes to his driver seemingly resolved, he seemed primed to make a charge at completing the grand slam.

A first-round even-par 72 yesterday was disappointing but today’s display was nothing short of disastrous. Often out of place off the tee, he made four bogeys on the front nine. Birdies at 13 and 15 gave him hope of sneaking above the cut line but bogies at 16 and 18 left him five over par and that will almost certainly be the end of his Masters for another year.

Day two recap: Koepka the man to catch

22:02 , Ben Fleming

While we wait for further confirmation on play today, let’s take a look back at the stories of the second round and where else to start than the leader, Brooks Koepka.

The four-time major champion endured an injury-affected 2022 before leaving to join Saudi-backed LIV Golf. However, his performance over the past few days has brought back memories of the Brooks of old - a sparkling seven-under 65 yesterday was followed up by an impressive five-under 67 today. He sits on -12 and three ahead of Jon Rahm in second and he’ll be tough to catch if he can keep it together over the weekend.

Some scary photos after a tree came down near the 17th. Thankfully, Sky Sports and ESPN are reporting that nobody was injured when they fell.

Leaderboard: As it stands

21:49 , Ben Fleming

There is still no word on any resumption of play. It’s approaching 5pm in Augusta so they won’t have too much light left in the day.

Before the suspension, here’s what the scoreboard looked like:

1: Koepka -12 (F)

2: Rahm -9 (9)

3: Bennett (a) -8 (F)

T4: Morikawa -6 (F)

T4: Hovland -6 (10)

T6: Day (F)

T6: Burns (F)

T6: Spieth (F)

T6: Young (9)

Weather watch

21:40 , Ben Fleming

The patrons are making swift progress away from the course and this looks more serious than the earlier stoppage we had. There’s worrying footage of a tree coming down beside the 15th green. Hopefully, nobody has been hurt but that undoubtedly will have influenced the organisers’ decision.

Koepka enjoying return to Masters after 2022 outburst

21:31 , Jamie Braidwood

Brooks Koepka has revealed how he tried to punch out the back window of his car after missing the cut in last year’s Masters.

The frustration of struggling with a succession of injuries and relatively poor form led to an explosive outburst from the former world number one after a second consecutive early exit from Augusta National.

Twelve months on, Koepka was in a far better place as he added a 67 to his opening 65 to set a daunting halfway target of 12 under par in pursuit of his fifth major title and the third leg of a career grand slam.

“Last year, I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but pretty sure I tried to break the back window of the car with my fist,” Koepka said.

“I tried to put it through the back window, not once but twice. First time didn’t go, so figured try it again. The window did not break. Apparently (I’m) not strong enough.

“The ride home was pretty silent. But yeah, I guess Mercedes makes a pretty good back window.”

21:25 , Jamie Braidwood

Tiger Woods is limping quite heavily as the siren goes and the players make their way off the course.

By the way, Sandy Lyle has yet to finish his Masters career! The 65-year-old just had one more putt on the 18th to go, but wasn’t able to make it before play was suspended!

Sandy Lyle waves goodbye to Augusta

21:22 , Jamie Braidwood

Here comes an emotional moment for Sandy Lyle, as the 1988 champion walks up the 18th for the final time. The Scot has announced this 42nd appearance at the Masters will be his final one at Augusta.

The Masters: Weather watch

21:13 , Jamie Braidwood

Uh oh... just like that, the weather has changed quite dramatically at Augusta. The wind is now whipping the trees and there are patrons reaching for their jackets as the temperature drops.

There’s a big challenge now for the players remaining on the course.

Back-to-back birdies for Rahm!

21:12 , Jamie Braidwood

Oh how has Jon Rahm managed this! After making birdie at eight, his drive at the ninth looked left, but landed ok. His approach caught the rough at the edge of the green but just got better and better, sliding down the bank - before the Spaniard rolls in a lovely birdie putt from eight feet or so down the hill.

Eagle for Smith

21:08 , Jamie Braidwood

Cameron Smith, the Open champion, hasn’t really got going at the Masters yet...

... but an eagle at the par-5 eighth might just change that!

The Australian moves to -2, all thanks to a stunning approach into the throat of the green.

Woods makes the turn

21:03 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (10), Hovland -6 (10), Schauffele -1 (10)

This trio head onto the back nine and all three find their way onto the green in regulation. Woods goes first - putting across the green - and he lags it up superbly and can tap in for par.

Hovland goes next and it’s a similar area to Tiger’s but he leaves himself with some work to do for his par...but he makes it. Schauffele lags his put up to the hole well as well and also makes par.

Rahm moves into second

20:56 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -8 (8), Young -5 (8), Thomas -2 (8)

All three end up just off the green after their second shots into this par-five 8th. One by one they show their excellent touch around the green and it’s a trio of birdie chances.

Rahm makes amend for a bad drive and makes the birdie putt - he draws level with Bennett in second and is four behind Koepka. Thomas and Young follow suit and make their birdie putts.

Lowry misses a birdie chance

20:50 , Ben Fleming

Lowry -4 (12)

Lowry hits a superb iron right over the flag on the par-three 12th but from four feet the birdie effort misses on the low side. He remains at four under and level par for the round.

Great touch from Tiger

20:45 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (9), Hovland -6 (9), Schauffele -1 (9)

Woods thinks he’s hit a great wedge into this ninth green but it spins back and doesn’t stop. It ends up off the green but it’s a beautiful chip by Woods in response and he taps in for par. Schauffele’s long-range effort goes wide and he also makes par.

Hovland has a good look at birdie but he hits it too firm and has to settle for a four as well.

Solid stuff from Spieth

20:38 , Ben Fleming

Spieth -5 (70)

Jordan’s iron into the last can’t hold the top ridge and it falls back away from the pin. He can’t make the putt but it’s another solid round. Two under par and five under for the tournament - he’s certainly one to keep an eye on.

Trouble for Young

20:35 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (7), Young -4 (7), Thomas -1 (7)

Jon Rahm hit his bunker shot just as the hooter went off. He was annoyed to put it lightly but he now resumes for his par putt...which he makes. A tidy start for him.

Cam Young is in the bunker too but his ball is plugged and he is unable to make the return putt - a bogey drops him back to -4. Thomas with a nice up and down and makes par.

Woods makes birdie

20:31 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (8), Hovland -6 (8), Schauffele -1 (8)

Just before the break, Hovland missed a huge breaking putt for a birdie at the par-five eighth after a poor chip. Schauffele also makes par.

As play resumes, Woods taps in after a tidy chip and he makes a birdie to move back to +2.

And we’re back!

20:28 , Ben Fleming

It appears that the initial threat of lightning didn’t materialise as they suspected. The hooter sounds and play resumes.

Hopeful signs

20:19 , Ben Fleming

Well, we weren’t sure whether we’d be back today. Now, the cameras show the players walking back to their balls. Looks hugely positive.

PLAY SUSPENDED

20:12 , Ben Fleming

The hooter sounds and play is suspended due to the threat of lightning.

Koepka speaking to Sky Sports

20:09 , Ben Fleming

“I just played really solid, the speed got a little sloppy at the end and I wasn’t hitting the putts but I took advantage of the par fives to get to five under and that’s what you have to do around this place.

“I feel good. I can’t remember how I felt back then, it feels like it is so long ago and it is a completely different body and different knee and everything, so I feel really good. I feel like my game is right where it needs to be and where it should be.

“It feels like it’s supposed to. [I’m] excited and just ready to go this next few days and we’ll see how it goes. I just need to keep doing what I’ve been doing.

McIlroy set to miss the cut

20:06 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy +5 (77)

McIlroy gets himself in trouble with a wayward tee shot at the last. He’s forced to chip out and his third shot into the green leaves him with just under 40 feet to save par. He can’t manage that and it’s a bogey five and a five-over-par round of 77.

It’s a day to forget and a tournament to forget for Rory. He came in with so much expectation and so much promise but he won’t even see the weekeend. It’s back to the drawing board and the wait for the career grand slam goes on...

Solid start for Rahm

20:01 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (6), Young -5 (6), Thomas -1 (6)

Rahm fires off a few expletives as his tee shot into the par-three sixth drops down off the ridge. He does well, though, to make a par and remain at seven under. Young and Thomas follow suit and it’s a quiet start from this group.

Bogey for Woods

19:57 , Ben Fleming

Woods +3 (7), Hovland -6 (7), Schauffele -1 (7)

Woods gets into trouble off the tee and has to punch out from near a tree. His chip flies the green and lands amongst the patrons and he can’t get up and down to save his par. He’s now below the cut line as things stand.

Hovland is making a habit of being over the back of the green but this time he gets up and down with a deft chip to save par. Schauffele also makes par

McIlroy pars 17, two off the projected cut

19:52 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy +4 (17)

McIlroy creates a slim opening on 17 - he needs to make it but it slides on past. That feels like it for him this week. He needs a birdie at the last and an awful lot of luck from those still on the course if he is to make the cut.

The defending champion finishes off

19:50 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -1 (75), Homa E (73), Bennett (a) -8 (68)

Scheffler’s second is a poor one and the follow-up chip races over the back. He leaves himself a lengthy putt coming back but he can’t make it and it’s a closing bogey and disappointing three-over-par round from him. He’s a way back from the lead and it’s all come down to the putting over these last couple of days.

Bennett races by his birdie effort but superbly makes the par putt. The amateur is done and dusted and a round of 68 leaves him at eight under and solo second. What a couple of days for the amateur - the stuff of dreams.

Homa signs off with a bogey and he drops back to level par - three bogeys in his last four will no doubt frustrate the American.

Rahm and Young make par on 5

19:45 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (5), Young -5 (5), Thomas -1 (5)

Cam Young absolutely smokes one down the fairway but is unable to fully capitalise and makes par. Rahm has a testing long-range birdie chance which he nurses up to the hole. Thomas drops another after he misses a short putt - that’s back-to-back bogeys for him.

McIlroy set to miss the cut

19:41 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy +4 (16)

Oh dear...having missed a real good look at eagle on the 15th, McIlroy gets in trouble on the 16th. His tee shot flies over the back but his chip gives him a good look at par which he fails to make. It never looked like going in and flies past the right edge. He’s back to four over and will more than likely need two birdies on the last two to make the cut.

Morikawa wraps up a tidy round

19:36 , Ben Fleming

Morikawa -6 (69)

It was a divine iron into the last but he can’t make the most of it and has to settle for par. It’s a great round regardless by the American and he sits in a tie for fourth at six under.

Missed birdie for Woods

19:34 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (6), Hovland -6 (6), Schauffele -1 (6)

Woods makes contact with his tee shot and is all over it in the air. And why not as it settles just seven feet from the hole. But he can’t make the putt and remains at two over.

Hovland’s chipping is tested again after his tee shot flies over the back. Once more it lets him down and he’s left with a big par putt and this time, unlike the first, he can’t make it. It runs by the right edge and he drops a shot. A nervy start by the Norwegian.

Schauffelle also gets in trouble off the tee but is able to recover and make par.

Thomas drops one back

19:30 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (4), Young -5 (4), Thomas -2 (4)

Not much to report from this group as they all birdie the third. Rahm and Young make good pars at the fourth but Thomas gets in some bother off the tee and even his superb short-game skills can’t save par - back to two under for him.

Missed eagle chance for McIlroy

19:27 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy +3 (15), Burns -5 (15), Kim -1 (15)

There he is - Rory with a superb iron shot into the par-five 15th leaves him with a very good eagle chance...but he powers it by. Gosh, that could be a huge miss. He makes the return birdie but he’ll now need to find one more shot on the final three holes to make the cut.

Burns nurses down a good eagle effort to make a birdie four while Kim knocks in for a par.

Rose bogey at the last

19:24 , Ben Fleming

Rose -4 (71)

The round was building nicely for Rose but a bad tee shot at the last means he only has a par putt on the 18th which he cant make. He goes into the clubhouse at -4 and his steady season continues. His playing partner Dustin Johnson birdied 16 and 17 but, just like Rose, drops one at the last after a poor shot off the tee. He ends on -1.

Bogey for Schauffele

19:20 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (5), Hovland -7 (5), Schauffele -1 (5)

Hovland has a long-range effort for birdie which narrowly misses. Woods doesn’t show the same touch from long range and he has work to do for his par...and he makes it. Nicely done.

Schauffelle too is in a tough spot as his ball lands on the lower ridge. It’s a very poor three putt and he drops another shot to move to one under.

Bounce back birdie for Homa

19:17 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (16), Homa -2 (16), Bennett (a) -8 (16)

Homa responds in superb style on the 16th with a dialled iron shot off the tee and a good birdie from eight feet. Bennett and Scheffler see their birdie efforts miss and make par.

Good recoveries for Scheffler and Bennett

19:08 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (15), Homa -1 (15), Bennett (a) -8 (15)

Scheffler’s second flies the green and he needs a nice touch of short-game finesse to make par. Homa flies his over the back and makes an untimely bogey. Bennett also goes over the back with his third but it’s a superb up and down to save par and remain at eight under.

Pars all round

19:06 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (4), Hovland -7 (4), Schauffele -2 (4)

None of these three can manage anything but par from the fourth hole as they all miss looks at birdie.

Thomas birdies the 2nd

19:05 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (2), Young -5 (2), Thomas -3 (2)

No overnight change for Rahm and Young as they make par at the par-five second. Thomas makes a good birdie and he moves to -3.

A mixed day for Jason

19:02 , Ben Fleming

Day -5 (72)

That is a real missed opportunity for Jason Day there. He was sitting at nine under after the 13th but a double bogey at 15, followed by a bogey at 16 and the last leave him all the way back at five under. Given the conditions he was playing in, that will no-doubt irk him.

One back for Rory

19:00 , Ben Fleming

McIlory +4 (13)

It’s a nice second from Rory and he’s safely on the green. He misses the long eagle chance but knocks in for par. You have to think he needs at least two more in his final five holes to make the weekend.

Double bogey for Schauffele

18:52 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (3), Hovland -7 (3), Schauffele -2 (3)

Schauffele makes a meal of the third and finds himself in the bunker, out of it and then back in. He can’t get up and down and he makes a double-bogey six. That’s a costly hole.

Hovland misses a good chance at birdie and has to settle for par. Woods does the same.

In the background, the sight of raindrops can be seen in the water...let’s hope it stays light.

Back-to-back birdies for Bennett

18:50 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (14), Homa -2 (14), Bennett (a) -8 (14)

Can someone check Sam Bennett for a pulse? I’m not convinced he’s human. He pours in another birdie on the par-four 14th from over 20 feet and he moves above Rahm and Hovland and into solo second. Remarkable stuff from the amateur.

Homa and Scheffler make par - combined they’ve won four PGA Tour events this season...and they’re being shown up by Bennett on the grandest stage.

Looking rosy for Justin

18:45 , Ben Fleming

Rose -5 (15)

You’re a lucky boy, Justin. His second into the par-five 15th is under hit and looks to be rolling back into the water. It somehow clings on to a blade of grass and avoids the water but the Englishman takes full advantage, getting up and down to make birdie to move to five under and a tie for sixth.

Par save for McIlroy

18:41 , Ben Fleming

McIlory +5 (12)

Into the bunker with Rory’s tee shot on the par-three 12th. It’s a good recovery to make par from there and he follows it up by crunching a drive down the par-five 13th. He needs to make the most of these next few holes.

Tidy par save for Rahm

18:38 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7 (1), Young -5 (1), Thomas -2 (1)

John gets himself in a similar situation to Hovland on the first as his ball nestles up alongside the patrons behind the hole. Hovland hit a poor one but it’s superb by the Spaniard and he taps in for par as do Young and Thomas.

Bennett into second

18:36 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (13), Homa -2 (13), Bennett (a) -7 (13)

Forget the reigning champion, the amateur Sam Bennett is making all the headlines in this group. A simple birdie putt on the par-five 15th he is into a tie for second at seven under.

Homa also makes birdie. Scheffler can only manage par.

Mickelson in the clubhouse

18:34 , Ben Fleming

Mickelson -4 (69)

It was a weird atmosphere that greeted Phil this week. He’s a legend of this tournament but has attracted many haters after his very vocal support for LIV Golf and some questionable statements he made to the press. The last two days the LIV golfer has blocked out all the noise and will be here for the weekend, though. A birdie at the last and he's in the clubhouse at a very respectable four under.

All pars at the second

18:33 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (2), Hovland -7 (2), Schauffele -4 (2)

Woods is in trouble off the tee and has to lay up. His third flies just over the back and he trickles the ball down for par. Schauffele finds himself in the right bunker after his second but gets himself a good look for birdie out of the sand but it drifts past on the low side

Hovland takes on the green in two and his ball rolls over the back. Chipping is the only real weakness f the Norwegian’s game and it lets him down again. It’s a poor effort and he’s unable to make the birdie putt coming back.

Bad to worse for Day

18:25 , Ben Fleming

Day -6 (16)

Fresh off a double bogey on 15, the Australian’s tee shot feeds down away from the hole and leaves him with a lengthy two-putt for par...and he can’t do it. He should be making the par putt but it misses on the high side and that is now three dropped shots in the space of two holes. Less than ideal.

Rahm underway

18:22 , Ben Fleming

Rahm -7, Young -5, Thomas -2

And the final of our overnight leaders are underway as Jon Rahm tees off alongside Young and Thomas.

The Spaniard now sits five back from Koepka after the American’s round today - you feel any hope of catching the LIV Golf star will hinge on what happens with the weather in the next couple of hours.

More strife for McIlory

18:19 , Ben Fleming

McIlory +5 (11)

From bad to worse...to worse...to even worse. Rory’s second on the eleven is wild and flies over the back and into the water hazard. He chips to eleven feet from the drop zone but has to settle for another bogey. He needs a miracle in these closing holes...

More frustration for Scheffler

18:14 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (12), Homa -1 (12), Bennett (a) -6 (12)

There are still opportunities to come for him but there goes another good chance at birdie for the reigning champion. He and Bennett make par while Homa is rewarded for a fine iron shot off the tee and makes birdie to bounce back to one under.

Double bogey for Day

18:12 , Ben Fleming

Day -7 (15)

Oh, Jason - what have you done there! He’s just missed a good chance at 14 and out of nowhere, the Australian chunks his third into the water. He has to settle for a double bogey and moves back to join Rahm and Hovland at -7.

Just the five-shot lead for Koepka now...mind the gap.

Miraculous par save from Hovland

18:10 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (1), Hovland -7 (1), Schauffele -4 (1)

Hovland’s second lands amongst the patrons and his chip leaves him with a mammoth par putt. But never mind, that’s an awesome save! 55 feet but no bother for Hovland. The last thing you want to do is start the first with a bogey and he avoids that in spectacular fashion.

Woods and Schauffele make more regulation pars and we’re on to the second for this group.

Chance goes begging for Day

18:04 , Ben Fleming

Day -9 (14)

That is a rare sight - a close-range miss with the putter by Day. It was only from five feet but it misses on the high side and he has to settle for par.

Koepka sets the target

18:01 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -12 (67), Woodland -4 (72), Willett +6 (75)

Koepka hits a lovely drive down the middle and gives himself a look for birdie...not to be. But a mighty fine 67 and he sits at 12 under par. Given the conditions the rest of the field may face soon, he really has made the most of his side of the draw. It will take something special for anyone to catch him by the end of the day you suspect.

Woodland knocks in for par - he sits at four under and will be there at the weekend. The same can’t be said for former champion Danny Willett. He gets in trouble off the tee, makes a double bogey and will miss the cut.

Woods tees off

17:58 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2, Hovland -7, Schauffele -4

It’s time...Tiger is on the tee. We’ll see how the weather holds up but he sits right on the cut line as he starts his round. His drive goes down the left but holds on to the second cut.

Hovland, who held the overnight lead, also gets underway with a three-wood down the middle.

Schauffele finds himself in some bother as he gets going and is in the pine straw up the left.

Early birdie for Lowry

17:54 , Ben Fleming

Lowry -5 (2)

A long-range effort for Lowry on the second which he can’t convert. He’ll be more than happy to tap in for a birdie as he moves to -5.

Spieth showing promise

17:47 , Ben Fleming

Spieth (-5) 8

Spieth is normally front and centre but he’s bubbling away quietly in the background so far as he approaches the turn. He bogeyed the sixth but makes full use of the par-five eighth and with birdie he returns to five under and a tie for sixth.

Koepka onto the last

17:44 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -12 (17), Woodland -4 (17)

Some trouble off the tee for Brooks but a lucky bounces off a spectator gives him an angle to attack the pin. His first putt is a poor one by his standards and gives him some work to do...which he does. A solid par and onto the last for the leader.

Rose looking solid

17:40 , Ben Fleming

Rose -4 (11)

Justin Rose has an excellent record around this course and he needs all that experience to navigate the first two holes of the back nine. A par save from the bunker on ten and then a tidy up and down on the 11th sees him make another regulation par.

Another birdie for Day

17:38 , Ben Fleming

Day -9 (13)

Jason Day is making full use of these good weather conditions and a delightful wedge into the 13th bounces and checks just three feet from the hole. He knocks in for birdie as he tries to keep pace with the frontrunner Brooks.

McIlory misses birdie chance

17:35 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy +4 (8)

Rory needs to start making some putts sooner rather than later and the par-five eight offers that chance. But it’s a poor second which means he only has an outside look at birdie but the putt refuses to drop as it catches the right edge.

Nightmare for Scheffler

17:32 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -2 (9), Homa -1 (9), Bennett (a) -6 (9)

Scheffler’s second shot into the ninth doesn’t quite hold on and fades to the front of the green. One, two, three, FOUR putts later and Scheffler knocks in for a double bogey. The putter has not been kind to him so far this tournament and it’s another shocker to drop him further back.

Homa saves par with a good putt while Bennett hits an absolute gem of an iron from the fairway to just two feet. He taps in and he’s now six under par - still no nerves from this incredible amateur.

Koepka taps in for par

17:28 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -12 (16)

His tee shot on the par three doesn’t quite catch the ridge and drifts back down the hill. No problem for the American as he two putts and makes a par.

Morikawa drops straight back

17:24 , Ben Fleming

Morikawa -5 (9)

Just as soon as he was up to six and the two-time major champions bogeys the next hole. He finds himself in the bunker after two but can’t get up and down and makes bogey.

Day pars 12

17:20 , Ben Fleming

Day -8 (12)

The 12th is always one you’re happy to escape with a par. Jason Day does just that and he remains four back of the lead.

Koepka extends his lead

Koepka -12 (15), Woodland -3 (15)

Koepka eyes up his eagle effort from below the whole but it runs out of steam. He has to settle for a birdie but he’s got another and moves to 12 under. This is quite a round he’s building up - it will be interesting to see if the late starters will be able to catch him.

Woodland makes par and stays at three under.

Morikawa making moves

17:14 , Ben Fleming

Morikawa -6 (8)

Collin takes care of the par-five eighth and comes out with a birdie. He moves into solo fifth - a great start to his second round.

Day closes in, McIlroy bogeys again

17:12 , Ben Fleming

Day -8 (11), McIlroy +4 (7)

Jason Day was a man we talked about plenty yesterday...and he’s not going away today. A delightful chip off the side of the green and in for birdie on the 11th. He moves to eight under and just three back.

McIlory, however, where to start. He’s probably got te better of the weather today but he’s four over through seven holes. Another par putt slides by and he can forget about the green jacket...it’s now about whether he’ll be around for the weekend.

Koepka keeps on going

17:08 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -11 (14)

The American misses a birdie opportunity at 14 but that is a sublime long iron into the par-five 15th and he has another great look at eagle to further stretch his lead.

The Masters: McIlroy’s tough start continues

16:50 , Jamie Braidwood

Eh... McIlroy might be starting to sweat as his horror start turns into a potentially disastrous one. He makes his third bogey in six holes, this time at the par-3 sixth, as a three-putt drops the Northern Irishman to +3. A lengthy birdie putt steamed past the hole and left 10 or so feet for par, which slipped past.

The Masters: Koepka stretches lead!

16:46 , Jamie Braidwood

Supreme from Koepka - who plays the first of the par-5s to perfection and comes away from a birdie that looked relatively simple. His second shot at 13 caught the edge of the green and a tidy up and down from there moves him to -11, opening up a four-shot lead. He finally gets one of those birdie putts to land.

The Masters: McIlroy still short

16:36 , Jamie Braidwood

McIlroy sets up a chance at the par-4 fifth but his birdie putt stops short. He seems to have steadied after his horror start, but the scoreboard still reflects those horror holes of two and three.

The Masters: Double-bogey for DJ

16:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Dustin Johnson has just had a shocker at the par-4 seventh. A double bogey drops the 2020 champion back to even par.

The Masters: Koepka misses another

16:23 , Jamie Braidwood

Koepka, purring with his irons, lands another beauty within 10 feet at the iconic par-3 12th. It sets up a fourth birdie chance in a row, but Koepka leaves this short as well and his ball just stops short of the hole.

With two par-5s to come in his next three holes, the American could quickly blow this leaderboard apart - but he needs to start sinking some of these chances.

The Masters: McIlroy inches from chip-in

16:17 , Jamie Braidwood

Close from McIlroy! This would really have given his round some spark. After clearing the green at the par-3 fourth, McIlroy’s chip up the bank teases the hole but just stops short of the birdie. Still, par saved.

Oh hello, Jordan Spieth has just popped up on the leaderboard, joining those on -5 with back-to-back birdies for the 2015 champion at the second and third.

The Masters: Koepka rolls on

16:13 , Jamie Braidwood

Koepka has the look at another birdie, this one from a longer distance. The leader is finding the greens with unerring regularity at the moment, with calm and measured approach shots. This latest birdie putt at the 10th trickles past, but if he continues playing like this there will be plenty more chances to come.

The Masters: Where will the cut be?

16:06 , Jamie Braidwood

The cut is currently expected to be +1, and Rory McIlroy is now fighting to make it. The pre-tournament favourite drops another shot at the par-4 third, with a par putt always sliding away from the hole.

The Masters: Missed chance for Koepka

15:58 , Jamie Braidwood

Oh wow - Koepka could have had his left arm halfway in the sleeve of a green jacket by now. After missing a birdie by an inch an the ninth, Koepka then sees another birdie chance roll by at the 10th. This putt was much shorter, but the lead remains just three shots for now.

The Masters: Morikawa making moves

15:53 , Jamie Braidwood

Here we go... Collin Morikawa jumps to -5 with his second birdie in the opening five holes, rolling in a lovely birdie putt at the fifth.

Meanwhile Scheffler chugs his way to a par at the third, but that was hard work. The defending champion isn’t quite looking at home.

If you missed the mini-controversy Morikawa found himself in yesterday, by the way, here’s a catch-up...

The Masters: Bogey from McIlroy

15:50 , Jamie Braidwood

And there it is. Not the start McIlroy wanted to make and he drops to +1 after a brutal six at the par-5 second. He just did not hit a single shot right over that hole, from the drive into the bunker, to the pitch over the green, to the chip back up the hill.

The fightback just got that bit harder.

The Masters: McIlroy in trouble

15:46 , Jamie Braidwood

Oh McIlroy is making hard work of this par-5 second. After chipping out from the bunker, his third shot into the green from the fairway is pitched to the back corner of the green. But the ball springs away and tumbles down the bank, giving McIlroy a tough up and down to even make par.

Watch Brooks Koepka sink eagle at the Masters

15:44 , Karl Matchett

Here’s the footage of a couple of holes earlier as Brooks Koepka crushes it with a monster approach and a perfect putt on the eighth. He’s giving Jon Rahm plenty to do when he tees off about two and a half hours from now. Hovland gets going 20 minutes before that.

The Masters: Koepka out in 33

15:42 , Jamie Braidwood

Koepka with a birdie chance at 9... and it rolls an inch to the left! Still, that’s a front nine of 33 from the American. Very impressive and timely too, given the weather we expect later on tonight, as Koepka heads to the turn.

The Masters: McIlroy begins chase

15:37 , Jamie Braidwood

After an opening par, McIlroy sends his drive at the par-5 second into the bunker on the left edge of the fairway. Not a disaster, but he started the second round last year 10 strokes behind the leader in Scottie Scheffler, and he’s doing the same today given Koepka’s fine start.

The Masters: Tetchy morning for Woodland

15:30 , Shubi Arun

The American hits a birdie on hole eight, his second of the day. He’s also had two bogeys in Round 2 and currently lies T7 on the leaderboard at -4. Elsewehere, Mickelson double-bogeys on his sixth hole before returning to par on the seventh.

He goes T2 with Hovland and Rahm who are yet to start today.

The Masters: Eagle for Willett as McIlroy starts second round

15:25 , Karl Matchett

Danny Willett sinks a much-needed eagle on the eighth hole! That undoes some early damage after three bogeys in the first five for him.

He’s still +4 so work to do - the cut is expected around +1.

Rory McIlroy is underway and pars the first hole. He finished yesterday level par so will be looking to make up some ground today.

The Masters: Birdie for Rose and Bennett

15:18 , Shubi Arun

The Masters 2023: Scheffler tees off chasing leaders

15:05 , Karl Matchett

Scottie Scheffler and his group get underway. Four under for him yesterday, a really good day, so there’s scope for him to close the gap even further here.

Sam Bennett is right there with him - the amateur had an incredible start yesterday with a birdie and an eagle in the first two shots of his first Masters.

T6 the pair along with a handful of others.
