Massillon Museum offers nature and landscape photography class

MASSILLON − Photographer Cara Gaetano will teach a four-part nature and landscape photography class on May 18, May 23, June 1 and June 6.

The class will meet in person at the Massillon Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18; from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1; and via Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. May 23 and June 6.

Students ages 18 and older will learn the best approaches to capturing nature photography using some basic compositional techniques. There will be a short lecture at the beginning of the first class when the instructor will talk to students about elements that make a well-composed nature photo.

When the class meets in person, the instructor will take students to shoot at offsite nature locations; students should plan to be outside and wear comfortable footwear. Should inclement weather pose a risk, the in-person class rain dates will be May 19 from 2 to 5 p.m. and June 2 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This class is held in connection with the exhibition "Precarious Legacies: Exposures of a Fleeting Landscape," featuring photographic images by Ansel Adams and Nell Dorr. The exhibition will be on view in the Massillon Museum’s Photography Gallery through July 2024.

Gaetano has taught classes and workshops at the Cleveland Print Room, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and Pittsburgh Filmmakers School of Arts and Media, as well as through her own photography company, Ethereal Aperture Photo.

The fee is $115 per person ($95 per Massillon Museum member). Students will provide a camera with which they are familiar and a computer for classes taking place via Zoom. Register at www.MassillonMuseum.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061.
