Massachusetts cop fired after using criminal database to look up women

A Massachusetts police officer has been fired after he was caught using a criminal justice database to look up information about women.

An investigation found that Brennan Polidoro improperly surveilled women he had dated or wanted to date, as well as current romantic partners, while employed as an officer with the Lanesborough Police Department.

According to the Berkshire Eagle, the probe chronicled Polidoro’s actions between July 2020 and February 2021 and was headed up by Lanesborough Police Chief Timothy Sorrell prior to his retirement.

Polidoro, 30, was fired in the spring, but Sorrell said it’s possible the full extent of Polidoro’s crimes remained unknown.

“Once we found out there was an issue, we dealt with it,” Sorrell said. “If he’s a dirty cop, he’s going down. It’s all about the public trust. I did the best for my agency and recommended to the Select Board that he be terminated—and he was terminated.”

Sorrell added that the district attorney swiftly added Polidoro to a list of potential police witnesses that can testify in court. At least one case has been tossed out because of Polidoro’s extracurricular activities.

“We feel this is the tip of the iceberg and other people are going to come out,” the former chief told the Berkshire Eagle.

Polidoro has reportedly filed an appeal regarding his firing.
