Masons, KU Med, Via Christi offer free cancer screening in Wichita on Saturday

Experts agree the best way to survive cancer is to find out about it early, before symptoms force you to seek medical treatment.

Recognizing that, the Masons, Ascension Via Christi and the University of Kansas Medical Center are teaming up to provide free cancer screenings in Wichita on Saturday.

Medical professionals will be providing diagnostic testing for skin cancer and prostate cancer, and providing colorectal cancer take-home screening kits.

They’ll also be providing blood-pressure tests and smoking cessation information.

The providers will be able to advise attendees on how to follow up on any potential health concerns identified in the screening process.

The cancer and health screenings will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon Saturday at Georgetown Independent Living, 1655 S. Georgetown Street.

While Georgetown is a senior residential facility, the health screening event is open to all ages.

The Masons, a fraternal organization, have been organizing screening events throughout Kansas and often draw several hundred attendees, said Brooke Groneman, outreach director for the Masons Cancer Alliance. More than 20,000 Kansas residents have attended the screenings since 2003, Groneman said.
