Marysville's police dog is getting some extra protection
Marysville Police Department's police dog, Zeva, will have extra protection on the job thanks to a recent donation.
Vested Interest in K9s Inc. covers of the cost of a new protective vest using its own funds and a $985 sponsor donation. The vest has an estimated value of $1,800.

The vest is designed to provide police dogs with extra protection from bullets and stabbings. It's custom fitted for Zeva, and the manufacturer is certified by the National Institute of Justice.
"Zeva is an officer just like the rest of us, and when she's working near a suspect, she faces the same risks we do. That's why it's important for her to have protection," Marysville Director of Public Safety Matt Reeves said.
Vested Interest is a charity which donates body armor to police dogs across the country, stating it has spent $6.9 million on 5,379 vests for dogs.
Vested interest accepts donations on its website, https://www.vik9s.org/.
Zeva, a German shepherd-Belgian Malinois, joined the Marysville Police Department in April, replacing retired K9 officer Heiko. Her vest is estimated to arrive in eight to 10 weeks.
