Marvel's Taika Waititi set to star in Star Wars movie as Kevin Feige's spin-off shelved

Thor: Love and Thunder's Taika Waititi may have written himself a role in that upcoming Star Wars movie of his.

Together with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Last Night in Soho), Waititi has been working on a new adventure set in a galaxy far, far away since 2020, and now Variety reports he'll likely appear in front of the camera, too.

Waititi has previously acted in a number of projects that he's written or directed – including the likes of Jojo Rabbit, the What We Do in the Shadows movie, and two Thor films as Korg.

The last we heard about Waititi's Star Wars was that filming would start in 2023 at the very earliest, with his commitments to Our Flag Means Death season 2 and Time Bandits taking up the back end of 2022.

However, as of summer last year, he did add that he was "still trying to figure out what the story is". Variety's report hints that a 2025 release date could be a possibility.

Elsewhere, the trade publication went on to reveal that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is essentially far too busy to continue his work as a producer on a planned Star Wars movie, so it's no longer in active development at Lucasfilm.

It's also being reported that Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron project is no longer in active development.

It's expected further details about upcoming Star Wars projects will be formally revealed at the Star Wars Celebration in London in early April.

Meanwhile, we have another episode of The Mandalorian season 3 arriving on Disney+ today (March 8).

In case you've ever wondered what it's like to don the bounty hunter's beautiful chrome suit of armour, it's no picnic, according to Pedro Pascal.

"It's like putting on a head-to-toe glove with weights on it," he told Empire Magazine recently. "It's ironic that you can't see any facial expression because it puts you in the world so completely, and instantly makes the character feel real – but you can't see shit.

"They've continued to finesse and make it more comfortable, but it's like going blind. Your breath completely fogs up the narrow slit that you can see through.

"There's no peripheral vision. If there's a hole, I'm gonna fall into it."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
