The Marvels suffers worst-ever drop for a superhero movie
MCU sequel The Marvels has suffered the worst-ever box office drop for a superhero film in history.
Despite being reviewed by Digital Spy as a "charmingly fun, silly, action-packed intergalactic ride led by three charismatic superheroes. And tons of cats," The Marvels hit cinemas at the top of the box office, but as the lowest ever MCU entry – and the unfortunate records keep piling up.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film "fell 78 percent" in its second outing, making it "Marvel Studios' worst second-weekend drop of all time," as well as the worst for any superhero flick "in modern history."

Starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Captain Monica Rambeau, the triple team up sees the group face off against baddie Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) as she attempts to plunder the resources of other planets to repair her broken home world.
They're joined by Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Lashana Lynch as Monica Rambeau's mother, Maria – who provides one of the MCU's more impactful post-credits scenes of recent years
Monica, having harnessed her new light-based powers since acquiring them in WandaVision, wakes up in an alternate reality – and that reality looks a lot like the basement of the X-Mansion, as she's accompanied by Kelsey Grammar's Beast.
That means that – finally – The X-Men are now canon in the MCU.
At the end of the film, Ms. Marvel also recruits Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) for the Young Avengers.

Speaking to Digital Spy, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta previously defended the film's runtime as the shortest ever MCU-instalment.
"I really wanted it to be under two hours. I always think about the runtime actually, when I go into a film. I just feel like there's no need to have it long if you don't need to, because 1 hour 45 minutes is pretty average for a movie, so we were all really excited," she said
"I just think you do what's right for the movie. I didn't even know about this runtime thing until I think it was reported on. You have to do what's right for the movie."
The Marvels is in cinemas now.
