Martha Stewart Is Working On Her Own Skincare Line

When it comes to creating a healthy and fulfilling life, nobody does it quite like Martha Stewart. At 81, she's an award-winning television host, an author of 99 (!!) books on entertaining, cooking, and home improvement, and, runs a 152-acre farm in Bedford, New York.

She's widely known as a lifestyle legend, but even the best homemakers fall off track sometimes. "I made the terrible mistake of starting to watch 1923 [last night] with Harrison Ford," she told Women's Health one morning. "I 'm on episode five in one night, that's not good!"

Everyone's been there. Luckily, Martha has a solid daily schedule that gets her right back on track. She sat down with WH to chat all about her daily routine, growing her favorite foods, and her important tips for a great Instagram selfie.

She makes the most of her mornings.

Martha has all but mastered the art of a good morning routine. She's known to get up at around 5 a.m. every day (even after a late night of streaming), and tells WH that she is almost always out of bed way before 6:30 a.m.

Her day starts off by checking the news: "I do [all of] the New York Times' puzzles and read the headline news," she says.

And by 6:15 a.m. she's usually out of the house for a Pilates class, and immediately starts her farm work afterward. The early riser also tries to incorporate rest into her day, per her doctor's orders. "I'd rather nap than sleep [a lot at night]," she says. "I 'm a terrible sleeper."

She makes a lot of her own food.

It comes as no surprise that Martha takes full control over growing her own food to eat. Earlier this year, she finished construction on a huge raised-bed vegetable garden—where she grows everything from spinach to peas to herbs. It's about an acre's worth of produce, but she's currently most excited about the broccoli.

"I 'm growing massive broccoli," she says. "I've never had such beautiful vegetables ever, ever. I am so proud of it."

In the mornings, she always has green juice—usually made from veggies in her garden—and a cappuccino. "This morning I had [a green juice with] spinach, celery, parsley, cucumber and a little bit of ginger and orange," she tells WH. "I drink an eight ounce glass of that every morning."

The podcast host also likes to have homemade Greek yogurt with honey—or oats and a bowl of skim milk—for breakfast. However, lunch is usually somewhat on-the-go, as her days can get busy. The expert homemaker often commutes into New York City for business, which is about an hour-long drive from her Bedford property.

On those occasions, she'll sometimes order from, or go out to, a Japanese restaurant. Her favorite orders for the table are oshinko (pickled veggies), oshitashi (spinach salad), and miso soup—along with sushi, of course.

She is super active.

Martha lives alone on her farm, so she maintains a very active lifestyle by simply existing on her property. "I 'm a micromanager. It's a major problem," she says."Just getting around from place to place on the farm and making sure the gardening is being done and the animals are taken care of [is a lot of exercise]."

The entrepreneur uses the Silvertree Reach, a safety monitor bracelet, to maintain independence, but keep help within reach. "It's very wearable and you can have it call any number of people in case you have a fall or another episode," she says. The Silvertree Reach allows Martha to walk around her farm and commute wherever she goes without a second thought.

Martha also has an at-home gym, and regularly rides her horse (most often on Saturdays). She attends her Pilates class three times a week, usually—unsurprisingly—before 7 a.m.

"[The instructor and I] are the only people in the at that time," she says. "Nobody else gets up that early."

She knows her skin is good.

Everyone knows that Martha's skin is radiant—and she knows it, too! "Since the Sports Illustrated cover, people are very curious about what I do for my skin because my skin is good, and it looks good," she tells WH. One of her tried-and-true skincare brands is Mario Badescu, which she's worked with for 40 years now.

"I knew Mr. Badescu himself," she says. "They make very good stuff, and it's not break-the-bank stuff, you can afford it."

In the past, the Sports Illustrated cover star has recommended Mario Badescu's facial spray and cream (and even gets facials from them IRL at their New York salon). And though she's been loyal to the brand for many years, the doyenne of domesticity also says her routine changes all the time. "I try a lot [of skincare] because I 'm in the business of trying things, and I try to learn so I can teach," she says.

Currently, some of her favorite products include L 'Oreal's Lumi Glotion and Tatcha rice polish. "I use that a couple times a week," Martha tells WH. "I use that on my face a lot and on my chest. You just put a little in your hand, moisten it and rub it where you want to be really smooth. It's a fabulous thing."

She's working on her own skincare line, too, but no word quite yet on when it will drop. "I hope that will happen because it's really good," she says.

Her selfie secret is feeling good.

In the last few years, Martha has also become masterful at her selfie game. The star shared the makings for a great thirst trap on TikTok in February, but added that it is most important to be feeling good, rather than just looking good. "A good mood is essential," she says. "You have to feel like you look good, and then you're ready."

I'll keep that tip in mind for my next selfie. Keep doing you, Martha!
