Mars Hill man dies after being ejected from car in accident on I-26, highway patrol says

ASHEVILLE — A Mars Hill man is dead after a driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into an embankment on Interstate 26 the evening of March 11.

Around 4:33 p.m. March 11, a Ford Focus was traveling east on I-26 at a high rate of speed, according to Sgt. PJ Morgan with N.C. Highway Patrol.

"It was reported that he was weaving in and out of travel lanes," Morgan told the Citizen Times March 12. "He lost control near the 11.5-mile marker, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment."

Morgan said the car overturned multiple times before coming to rest on the right side of the road. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The right front passenger — whom Morgan identified as Jaren Alan Wilson, 28 — was ejected from the Ford during the collision. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

The driver and rear seat passenger were transferred to Mission Hospital in "serious but stable condition," Morgan said.

Morgan identified the driver as Bradly Hunter Johnson, of Weaverville.

The accident is under investigation and will be taken to the district attorney once the investigation is complete later this week. Charges are pending, Morgan said.
