This Mark Wahlberg Movie Has Been the #2 Film on Netflix for Over a Week

We’ve been in a long-standing relationship with Netflix (especially over the last eight months). So, anytime we see a new series or film in the platform’s top ranked spots, our interest is immediately piqued. And that goes double if the movie is a black-ops action thriller starring Mark Wahlberg.

Called Mile 22, the flick pulled a Moneyball and became the #2 film on Netflix’s list of most popular movies. Even better? The movie has held its spot for over a week. (It’s currently ranked behind The Impossible and ahead of Operation Christmas Drop, Knock Knock, The Grinch and Holidate.)

Originally released back in 2018, Mile 22 is what Variety calls “a Bourne film that aims lower and hits.” Wahlberg plays a U.S. intelligence elite squad leader who must travel over 22 dangerous miles to help a mystery agent turn himself in to the United States embassy. The film’s official synopsis reads, “In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.”

In addition to Wahlberg, Mile 22 also stars Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead), Ronda Rousey (Charlie’s Angels), John Malkovich (Billions), Natasha Goubskaya (GLOW), Carlo Alban (Madam Secretary), Iko Uwais (Triple Threat) and Sam Medina (Preacher).

Mile 22 was directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) and written by author Lea Carpenter and Graham Roland (Jack Ryan). Both Wahlberg and Berg also served as executive producers along with Stephen Levinson (Deepwater Horizon).

Mark Wahlberg and action-thrillers sound like a winning combo to us.
