Mark Hamill remembers the man who played his dad in ‘Star Wars’

Theirs was a complicated father-son relationship.

Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars,” mourned the death of David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the trailblazing sci-fi saga.

“So sad to hear David Prowse has passed,” Hamill tweeted Sunday. “He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him.”

The hulking 6-foot-7 actor’s face is not seen in the trio of films in which he appears behind a black mask, though his imposing presence looms large over characters like Hamill’s Skywalker, who duels Vader with light sabers on two occasions. The character was voiced by James Earl Jones.

Anthony Daniels, who played Skywalker’s droid sidekick C-3PO in the “Star Wars” films, also mourned Prowse’s death.

“So sad,” he tweeted, recalling how Prowse’s “iconic figure dominated” his scenes.

One “Star Wars” figure who wasn’t impressed by Prowse was creator George Lucas, the late actor reportedly wrote on his personal website in 2010.

“After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have ‘burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself’ — no other reason given,” he wrote, claiming he’d been banned from “Star Wars” events.

Hamill made headlines last week for trolling President Trump on Twitter, whom he mocked for getting upset with reporters while sitting in a tiny desk. He dubbed the president “Diaper Don.”
